assuming it doesn't become a Fish, this will probably be the next thing we Watch after Dennis, we'll have to see what happens

Just m 2 cents here, but in 2003 our old fire chief retired, and we hired a new one. This one is from New York. When the head of our Hurricane Committee approached him to get our disaster plans signed, the chief told him that he had been through hurricanes in New York and they were no big deal.

Since being on our Committees is done on the person's own time, and there is no extra pay for it, the chairman was quite upset and resigned from the committee.

A year later, when Charley was on the way, our Chief was attending a conference in NOLA and chose not to return to the City. The aftermath, he admitted, was more than he ever expected.

The eye of Charley passed over us, as did the eye walls of the others. It seemed as though we were the Hurricane crossroads of Florida. He now admits it is quite a different experience this far south.

Reminiscent of 1995 - but seemingly, with fewer "fish" - it seems like the general trend is for the Atlantic highs being way too strong and persistent for everything to just go up and out.

Isn't there a General Rule of Thumb that if a Wave comes off the Coast of Africa above a certain Latitude that it will most likely be a Fish?
