Texas Lucky Again

#1 Postby KatDaddy » Thu Jul 07, 2005 6:30 am

We definitely feel for you guys along the NE GOM. Ivan and now Dennis.
The models continue to show a NE GOM landfall well away from Texas as the drought continues. Y'all be safe and prepare this weekend for Dennis.
You will be in our thoughts.

Hey Thanks KatDaddy. I'm still hoping for a miracle with this thing, dry air, shear or anything that could take some punch out of him. We don't need something like this right now. There are places along the beach where the sand only stretches out 10 yds behind homes and even the roads to the water. Plans are under way for renourishing the beaches but that is at least half a year away. Also, due to the very wet rainy year we've had along the coast here I expect tree's to topple alot easier than otherwise with the soil so saturated.

I'm a mile north of the beach and 300 yds south of Choctawatcheee Bay, I may become water front property when this is over.

Texas is not out of the woods yet by any means. Please realize this.

While the N.O. to Mobile area looks best, Texas residents should continue to watch this. If the ridge continues to strengthen, he will head further into LA and it won't be much farther for it to reach TX.

Well, the models are moving to MS/FL so, even the weather service out here pretty much said we are free and clear. Seems a bit early to just write a GOM bound storm off, but, NHC, NWS and most mets on here seem pretty positive its not getting this far west, so, thats good enough for me. It won't come this far over or they wouldn't have blown the west off this much already.

Barring any changes to the patterns that are forecast to steer Dennis i also think that Texas has lucked out again. Now having said that i will continue to track Dennis to make sure he takes that NW turn.

It's really never been much of a Texas threat....the ridging is all wrong for us to get a storm like this. Once storms gain in latitiude...you need a really strong ridge to keep them south and headed more west...and right now that ridge id going to be much too far to the north and east.

I agree actually. I never believed the ridge would be strong enough to be a TX threat either, but I think its safe to watch this for another couple of days to make sure this is the case.

Again, I can't emphasize enough people from N.O. to Mobile are at highest threat right now.

At this point, we Texans would take Dennis as an "open wave" downgraded from his current status ... maybe after he makes landfall?

Perhaps Dennis will decide to vacation around the Arklatex area and dump some needed rainfall on us.

Good morning all,
Well I am glad to see that Mr. Dennis seems to be wanting to visit areas other than the Texas gulf coast. I hope that where ever he lands the people are kept safe and no one is injured.
For all of the Texans out there I did a little history checking last night and since 1965 only 3 storms that have had a similar path as Dennis have struck the Texas Coast. What I found interesting was that 2 storms had the same name, Claudette. One was a storm in '79 and the other was a cane in 03. The other was Allen a cat 5 in 1980. By the way that was 3 storms out of approximately 34 that either had their beginnings near where Dennis started or passed over Jamaica. I am also aware that past performance does not portend future events, I just thought that this was interesting.
Have a nice day,

Maybe he'll pull an Ivan and come back to Houston as a weak storm???

That would be nice to have him come back as an open wave, but with P'Cola's luck the past few years he would just come back and visit there again. BTW some parts of Houston did get some rain yesterday. All the mets said it was because of instability caused by Cindy. In my opinion alot of them here want a cane so bad its almost sad. I've been through 2 and several storms and I can honestly say that if I never see another one that would be fine with me.

Yep, I'm pretty convinced Texas is in the all clear so I'm pushing forward with my vacation plans starting Monday.

On a side note, I got a little shower at about 10:20 last night up here in Montgomery County. It wasn't a drought buster but it was nice to have.

A question for the mets....after Dennis is history, do y'all see a slow down in tropical activity in the Gulf?
