S. Florida Local Met....

#1 Postby Windtalker » Thu Jul 07, 2005 7:12 pm

Brian Norcross gave us a 5 min update on the storm at 8PM. He claims that by the 11pm, watches and warnings will be updated to include the West & East Coast of Fl up to Tampa on the West side and Up to Ft Pierce on the East side. He states the Hurricane center might upgrade to a Hurricane Watch for Miami/Dade & Broward Counties on the East & A Hurricane warning on the West side up to Ft Myers with a watch up to Tampa. A Tropical Storm watch will be from the West Palm Beach County North on the East side. I guess we will see at 11PM....

I would say yes this is true unless we see more of a WNW movement this evening. If we see any signs of a NNW movement than these watches and warnings will be issued.

He also mentioned something about tropical storm warnings in Miami-Dade, didn't hear the hurricane watch part.

Mr. Norcross is a good Met.. If a watch gets issued for the Tampa area.. that would probably technically include us here in Central Florida because it would be on the Central Florida coast..

{feeling a little queasy suddenly lol}

I wonder how the AM meeting at Wally World will be tomorrow if I have to tell these people there's a chance it could at least come close to "here we go again"..

and BTW.. In my "weather guru" updates at Wal Mart.. I only tell them the "professional" opinions.. I never give them my actual unless someone asks me..

He mentioned it toward the end...I think he feels alittle uneasy about this one....

I think the Tampa Bay area has a good possibility of seeing conditions as worse as Jeanne or Frances. It will be on the worst side of this storm.

I think this is definitely a good precautionary measure at the least. Remember the hurricane warnings up almost along the entire FL east coast with Floyd?

I sure do...People I think became really upset when Floyd Turned North away from us after all the hype to evacuate. That's when I think some South Floridians became very complacent.

not really, there is a difference. Collier County has a Tropical Storm Watch in effect as well as a seperate Inland Tropical Storm Watch. So for Kissimmee/St. Cloud/Orlando area, you'll have to be issued an Inland Hurricane/TS advisory, don't just go by what happens in Tampa, there are seperate advisories for inland communities like yours.

On another note, I would question such warnings/watches to that extent up the SE Coast...but just my opinion.

Depending upon the track over the next several hours I think they should. Remember Cape Canaveral reported a 100mph wind gust in Frances!

I remember him when Charley took a turn at the last minute and how his emotions where during the night with Andrew. Did anyone see the new chief on channel 7. He made at least four mistakes tonight with either calling the storm Charley or with the current direction of movement that was in the 5 pm advisory.

Chris:

I hope you are wrong as my son is in Tampa and he is not his mother's son. I have perhaps the largest hurricane preparedness kit in S. Fl and he barely has the absolute necessities and that is because I sent them to him after the 5 day power outage after Jeanne. Geeeesh, kids!

Preparing for the worst and hoping for the best (for everyone!!!)

Starting to get a bit nervous here in Oviedo. There seemed to be a magnet on top of us here in Central Florida (Orlando) last season. DeJa Vu all over again.

Here in Clearwater those two storms were not a big deal. Lost Power for about a day and 1/2 but no significant damage.

Absolutely true. I remember myself becoming a bit upset after sooooo much crazyness going on when Floyd was threatening south florida and wound up turning away.

I lived there last summer and there were 100K+ without power across the Tampa Bay area. We were without power for 5 days with lots of tree damage
