In 1989, Charleston, SC, was hit by Hugo. We had a record snowfall on Christmas 1989 (and it almost NEVER snows here!).

Ah, I remember the east coast Christmas storm of 1989. My mom and stepfather wanted to drag me to my grandparents house in Miami for Christmas. Our planned departure: Christmas Eve. I saw the prediction of snow from GA north, as told them we shouldn't go. Well we went. It started snowing about 1 hour after we left. Traffic on I-95 was averaging 35 mph, all the way from NC to GA. When we got to Brunswick, GA, we got the last two bowls of chili from the Krystal, and continued on. We were the last car allowed over the bridge in Jacksonville, as they were icing over. It snowed all the way to Ft. Pierce (wasn't sticking, but was falling rapidly from the sky.) It took us 25 hours to get there (normally takes 12-13.) Once there, we got to stay for 1 day, then turn around and come home. Only thing accomplished on that trip was missing probably the only white Christmas we'll ever have in my lifetime in Eastern NC. Can you tell I'm still a little pissed about this? I started driving myself to Florida after this fiasco.
