I'd like to point out that Dennis coming over the weekend is the worst time. I'm sure everyone from Joe B, NHC, and the local mets are getting alot of political pressure to be told "where is this going" when the fact is, until he gets clear of Cuba, and the AT THAT TIME environment can be looked at, its STILL up in the air. That said, I believe ecomically pressure is coming from somewhere to keep A) Needless (according to politicians and business owners) Evacs from taking place, and B) FEMA and others on needing time to prepare and get said areas ready. Not all of this is unwarranted, however. Still, Dennis is in a touchy place right now, and STILL not in the GOM, and to write off anyone as of yet is a mistake in my view. Yes, if they are right, then you will never hear of it again probably. If they are wrong however, people die. Screw my career, I would not be able to live with myself should the latter happen because of a call I made.
Its going to be an interesting weekend, to say the least.
cheers,
loon

I agree with the NHC and think that Dennis will go well east of here. But, sometimes storms have a mind of their own and defy all odds and reasoning sometimes. Bob Breck should of not said we are in the clear and go on with our lives. Because I observed that Houma people have made zero preparations because they think it is in the clear. It probably will be. But, you can't have that attitude and know 100%. At least, David Bernard and John Gumm are going through all possibilites and telling us not to let our guard down. Unlike Bob Breck.

Yep Jeff Baskin, Bobs associate said that its not coming to N.O. and it is incredibly out there that it would have a remote chance of coming west. Essentially taking people off guard. Even eluded to the evacuation recommendations of Jefferson Parish as not being something to really worry about. Kinda in the words of "thats what they do" emergency management officials. If you read between the lines what he said was evacs are ridiculous. I just don't know.

Jeff Baskin said today without reservation that NO computer models had the storm coming near La. I immediately got up & ran the latest UKMET, and he was wrong. Both he and his mentor Breck constantly vacillate between panic and nonchalance. Baskin actually chastised people for using the models, like we are total idiots, and could never begin to understand the things that great minds such as his and Breck's could

They broke into programming to talk about the 5 PM advisory, and Breck was telling people if they felt comfortable with leaving now, by all means, go ahead and get to your evacuation destination. And if you were content to wait, that the contraflow call would be made tomorrow morning. He was a little on the manic-giddy side but he did seem to back off ridiculing people for leaving.
