I know what you are talking about...related rates...like when a guy is walking towards a light pole and we have to figure out like how fast he is going or how fast the shadow is shrinking compared to eachother. Or the mother of all related rates problems...that one about the drop in the lake and how fast the circles are increasing. That is always fun :| JK!!!!

:P When I graduated 15 years ago, my HS only had AP English and US History. I got full college credit on US History and well, let's say I didn't do so well on the English part :D

How hard is AP American History? My daughter will be a junior next year, signed up for Honors American History (her 1st honors course) but her counselor & the AP Am. History teacher said her PSAT scores were high enough and they want her to take the AP course. I don't want her to be overwhelmed with the new course & everything else she does. She's very involved in extracurricular things.

I took AP Euro this afternoon. It was somewhat difficult, but I made it.

CajunMama: I took AP US History last year. Any AP history class requires that you learn a lot of material, including a lot of facts and dates (not to say that it's nothing but rote memorization because it's not, those things are very important) and there is also a lot of reading. However, if you enjoy it, then it actually isn't that bad. And if you don't get everything, you can still do well on the AP's. I didn't do all the reading or remember everything, or even most everything, but I did fairly well. The AP tests are not designed to have you know everything, just show that you are reasonably well educated on the subject.

I think the more she can learn the better. Its good for us to be challenged. Unless she alreayd has too much on her plate already...i'd go ahead and let her take it. When i took it, we got to read books about the civil war, and another book called "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair. That was a pretty good book.

Thanks guys for your info. I don't think she'd have a too much of a problem. Also, it helps that the AP teacher is the dance team sponsor and my daughter is the co-captain of the team! But it's also the other courses she'll be taking...chemistry, algebra II. I think she wants to take it but going from regular classes to AP kind of scares her. She saw the AP study guide for this years students. It was 128 pages!

JQutiePie, she is a Rebel Ambassador (kinda like a PR person for the school), dance team, cross country track, regular track. Also, she was one of the few students selected parish wide to be part of Lafayette Junior Leadership which is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. And she has regular dance at a dance studio. Think her plate is full enough?
