Carl Arredondo-Dennis is definitely not coming to LA
Carl Arredondo, Chief Meteorologist on New Orleans' WWL-TV, just reported the weather and said that Dennis is definitely not going to strike Mississippi or Louisiana as the upper level low will steer Dennis into the Alabama/Florida border. He was very direct in his statements and forecasting and said we have no worries with this system other than the possibility of a passing shower and some light winds.

Why then the Tropical storm watches for the La. coast It seems that the NHC is adjusting their forecast slightly left of previous tracks. I sure hope he is right because a lot is riding on this forecast.

He, obviously, seems certain that we have no concerns or he wouldn't have reported his forecast as he did. He was quite emphatic and matter-of-fact. I thought it was rather strong, but, it's exactly what he is forecasting. We'll see. He's probably right and I'm banking on his comments, while, I watch the system VERY closely.

Do you guys have Channel 15 in Houma? Channel 15 shows the re-broadcast of WWL's most recent news around the clock...kinda like a local "Headline News," that you can tune into if you miss the news....

Following Breck's lead I guess. I don't think we have anything to worry about either. If I was an on-air personality, I'd leave my options a little more open than what those guys have done. If they're right, then their calls were good. If they're a little off, a lot of people could suffer. Who knows?

Light winds?!?!?!?!?
I wouldn't consider 25-30mph winds light.

i think when taken in context of a hurricane discussion light would be the word......tropical storm force winds are only 35mph....so the borderline of issuing a tropical storm watch is probably the right thing to do but all in all 25-35mph is a nice spring breeze

Compared to what they would or could be, I think he was just making a notation that things would be "OK," here. He did say that the possibility of tropical storm force winds are there with the tropical storm watch up, but, said it doesn't seem likely. We will still have problems with high tides in Metro New Orleans. I'm in my usual hurricane mode---when it's in the GOM, then the system has my undivided attention with just about every move. For most of you, please take note that when viewing satellite loops, adjust the speed to almost as high as it will go and the small "jogs," will be eliminated and a true grasp of direction will come into view. With that said, Dennis is obviously moving W or WNW tonight. The movement has been consistent enough to call a direction change (although it will likely be temporary). It will be interesting to see how far West Dennis does go before resuming a NW track. Dennis is still at a very low latitude, so, a pretty quick change in direction is needed and his forward speed does need to slow down to make the change, as Dennis is a rather large system. The forward speed does seem to be slowing, somewhat, based on Key West radar, even if the storm is still moving almost due West right now.
