Though the TPA bay area is not "in the cone" it is within the tropical storm force conditions area. It is now under a tropical storm warning...Ask the folks in Louisianna about tropical storm(?) Arlene... not a picnic. Expect downed trees, power outages and flooding rains. REMEMBER, the cone is just a pencil line away!

interesting opinions on local channels in Tampa. 2 said we will have winds 20-50 MPH, and 2 channels said expect winds in excess of 70mph. I will go with the 20-50.

I will plan for the (up to ) 70, and cross fingers and toes for the 20-50.

Personally, I might catch the tail of this one...folks in Bradenton might be awakened. I am sure there are many more to come!

I don't think it will be all that bad. I'm in an evacuation zone but I didn't get flooded at all last year so I'm not too worried about this one.

I was just awakened by a nice squall in Sarasota before 6 AM. :)

Winds still haven't gotten very high, but it's rained a lot!

 Holy Crap!

I woke up this morning around 6:30/6:45am. Peered out my window...the sky wasn't sunny, but wasn't dark. The trees didn't seem to be blowing too much. I thought...hmmm...storm must have moved even farther west than we thought...

Went downstairs, opened the back door to let one of my dogs outside WHEN I NOTICED THAT THE SKY HAD TURNED THIS IMMENSE GRAY/BLACK COLOR THE LIKES OF WHICH I HAD NEVER SEEN! The clouds were almost the same color as the sky, so I could barely see them. I scanned the sky for a tornado, then walked outside with my dog.

As my dog sniffed around, the wind kicked up and it started to rain. A quick downpour is not all that unusual, but the TREMENDOUS GUST OF WIND was unexpected and quite scary. I literally grabbed onto the collar of my 30 lb. border collie so she wouldn't blow away. She probably wouldn't have, but, holy crap, that was scary!!

I don't know what the speed of that gust was, but at the same time, apparently, there was a 49 mph gust in pinellas. Yikes!!

Thank goodness the eye is travelling more west, but keep your heads-up for those gusts today!!

Disclaimer: this is not an official on-the-scene weather report, just my own, personal, amateur, observations. And, hey, it as 7am...I could've been half dreaming...
