Pentagram in Dennis's Eye Visible

#1 Postby wxman57 » Sat Jul 09, 2005 4:47 pm

Take a look at the image I just snapped of Dennis's eye. Look familiar? Remember the eye features in Isabel a few years ago? You can see what looks like a 5 spoked wheel inside Dennis's eye now:

And here's a zoomed out image at the same time:

but that is truly an amazing photo! I was amazed at Isabel thinking we would probably not see another one of those for a long long time.

That is one fine looking 'cane, just wish it was somewhere else. Dry air, come on down.

Tried to zoom in a bit more on that first image but I was too late. Here's a zoomed in image from 15 minutes later. Can't see the pentagram/star any more, but I think I can see a WC-130 in there. ;-)

It means that they have mesoscale vorticies within the eyewall - its often indicative of a very powerful or rapidly intensifying hurricane.

Dennis can't go category 5, can he? I was under the impression that multiple vortices within the eye generally only occurred in the most powerful canes.

Goodness gracious, that's scary!

This is a VERY BAD sign. This only occurs in the most powerful of hurricanes. Past examples: Isabel and Ivan near/at peak intensity.

Where do you get the images?

#15 Postby dolebot_Broward_NW » Sat Jul 09, 2005 5:05 pm

Where do you get such fantastic images? I just tried with GHCCSAT, and tropical RAMSDIS online, and the best I could get was an indication that there WAS an eye. No looking inside!

Did a little photoshopping to increase apparent resolution a bit. I also downscaled back to 1:1 pixels (or roughly near 1:1)

Image

Looks ominous.

I really want whatever program you are using to see these nice images. It appears to be GOES-12 imagery, but not from the same source we can get them from. tropical RAMSDIS is nice, but this is on the next level.
