Here in Cocoa just had a nasty sqaull, slanted rain, wind. I have no idea what the wind speed was pretty good size gust though. its still very dark overhead you can see the clouds moving from the south east. Here it comes again.

I always heard that the NE quadrant was the strongest but Dennis has past our latitude and we are having the worst conditions of the day right now. Only exception- we got our electricity back after only an hour and so far, so good.

Dixie. if you haven't spoken to your son, I imagine Punta Gorda is much the same as here. I haven't heard any significant news out of there on our local broadcasts. We are all under a tornado watch under 11 pm and expect squally weather. What are conditions in your neck of the woods?

Stay safe.

Went to the beach, warm winds sustained at around 35-40. I think gusts were up to 60 but they were probably up over 50mph.

Surf just lapped the dune line. Agitated cyclone surf about 4-5 feet.

Winds SSE. Deep SE feeder bands pouring into center abeam Sanibel 180 miles west.

Humid. Warm feel to wind. Gusts still shaking house...

Orlando/OIA Airport Area - This morning around 10am, FL Mall area was very wet w. parking lots showing lots of green leafs and very small branches here and there.

11am to 6:30pm - Periods of light to medium wind gusting, but always humid as heck and hot (like air out of an oven) - very weird. I've been here since late 60's and can't remember noticing the air being like this. Indicator for very unusual season?

7pm - Band of heavy rain hitting FL Mall area - passed within fifteen to twenty minutes. Sky was really spooky right before, rolling in from the southwest as I drove west to mall. Air was very cool right afterwards, rain itself was cold. Cool air - finally!

About 8:30pm (home @ Hoffner/Goldenrod area - just north of OIA) - Had a heavy rain for about half hour - hear drizzling now. Lights blinked off at about 8pm for about 5 seconds. Not hearing any sirens.

I AM hearing fireworks now (9:15pm) - Go figure.

Prayers are for all in Dennis' path.

Here in northwest Florida, we are beginning to get the squalls from the storm and I am surprised at the strength of the wind coming from this. I have been through many storms in this area, but this one seems different. It is scary to think how bad it will be this time tomorrow.

Weather Update

#57 Postby FloridaDiver » Sat Jul 09, 2005 10:00 pm

Currently experiencing a heavy rate of rainfall and some gusty winds at 10:55PM here in West Palm Beach (Lantana) my cheapo weather thingy outside registered a wind gust of 30mph, most likely a trailing feeder band as Dennis passes to the north of us. Saturday was very windy but amazingly absolutely no rain in my area. This morning we woke up to the sound of driving rain on the windows, by 10:30am all gone, just clouds and much wind.
