CNN-it's moved west

#1 Postby jes » Sat Jul 09, 2005 10:08 pm

CNN just said that the storm is now expected to move into Gulf Shores rather than Pensacola.

True, NHC has shifted west, albeit slightly.

Where are all the FL N wobblers?

About 5 or 6 miles west... yes.

NHC track is Gulf Shores-Daphne-Meridian-Memphis.

If you look at Cindy she has curled up and almost stalled over Maine. A boundary connects one cyclone to the other in a west-east oriented line. This line is up near Tennesse and lax. Judging from this NHC is probably correct that the current straight NW track will continue to landfall due to the influencing synoptics being too far inland to turn Dennis. The west side of the Bermuda High is the sole, and clear steering factor...

Just posting what the NHC says...

I think it'll shift a little west too. Wouldn't be shocked at all if it comes into MS. Pascagoula is defintely likely, about as much as Pensacola IMO.

Brent,

How many miles is Grelot road from Daphne. I'm trying to figure out if I'll still be on the west side of this storm or in the eye. I know you can just give an estimate.
Since we were on the front East side of Fredrick it seems that even though this storm may be just a little stronger it still won't feel as bad a Fredrick since we'll be on the west side. Am I thinking right?

Grelot is 15-17 miles from Daphne, depending where on Grelot Road. I wouldn't assume an exact Daphne hit though, so it's rather irrelevant to try and predict whether you'd be in the eye or the eyewall.

I drove through Meridian two years ago on the way to the Miami/Dallas game in Dallas on Turkey Day (I'm a long-time Miami fan, it was great to go to Texas Stadium and see the Dolphins beat down the Cowboys, in fact one of my dreams in life was to see that happen live.) One of your fine police officers (the K-9 unit, in fact) rode one car length off my rear bumper for the entire length the interstate goes through town. This was in heavy daytime traffic, I wasn't speeding or driving aggressively or anything. He eventually backed off and turned around. Do they have something against red sports cars with out of state plates (I was driving my 300ZX.)

Too close to call.

You need to be prepared for a Category Four Hurricane and that your going to recieve the worst conditions. I still think it slips in west and devastates Mobile and the surrounding area. Dauphin Island with the eastern eyewall landfalling in the city.

Thanks mtm ----

I think I am getting too scared. I still think staying in a brick building on high ground will be OK ---- my house didn''t even rock for Fredrick. The television is making me feel like we're all going to die. This is such an uncomfortable feeling. I just hope I at least get a new roof out of this.

It's not just the wind you have to worry about in Mobile. You also have to watch Mobile Bay if it lands on the wrong angle. I know you stay on high ground BUT.....
