They should follow the guidance of the local emergency management officials.

If it was me, LEAVE NOW!

Unless this house was built "like a fortress" for SEVERE hurricanes i would not stay anywhere in the path of this storm.

If they can tonight, i would evacuate. Otherwise, they will want to be in their final destination within the next 6 hours when the rains and very heavy squalls and wind will pickup. It will not be safe to drive any distances tomorrow if drive at all.

Statement from the NWS Mobile
...WIND IMPACTS...
GIVEN THE CURRENT TRACK AND INTENSITY FORECAST...DENNIS SHOULD BE VERY SIMILAR TO HURRICANE IVAN OF 2004. TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS OF 40 MPH OR GREATER WILL BEGIN TO AFFECT THE COASTAL AREAS VERY EARLY SUNDAY MORNING...WHICH WILL MAKE DRIVING CONDITIONS HAZARDOUS. HURRICANE FORCE WINDS...75 MPH OR GREATER...WILL BEGIN TO AFFECT THE AREA AROUND MIDDAY SUNDAY AND PERSIST THROUGH SUNDAY
EVENING. DENNIS IS EXPECTED TO POSSIBLY BE A CATEGORY 4 HURRICANE AT LANDFALL. THUS...MAJOR STRUCTURAL DAMAGE IS LIKELY. HURRICANE FORCE WINDS WILL SPREAD INTO THE INLAND COUNTIES SUNDAY EVENING WITH THE HIGHEST WINDS BEING NEAR THE CENTER AND JUST TO THE EAST OF DENNIS. THERE IS ONE LAST CHANCE TO SECURE ALL LOOSE OBJECTS.
UNSECURED LOOSE OBJECTS CAN BECOME DEADLY PROJECTILES IN SUCH HIGH
WIND CONDITIONS.

Wind wise things will begin to deteriorate between 7am and 10am.... landfall near East end of Dauphin Island around 3:30-4pm. Smart move to get away from Fowl river. Especially if landfall switches to Pascagoula, then storm surge will be unbelievable.

Channel 15 just went through that scenario a few minutes ago. If they're leaving Fowl River to head into town, do it by 8AM. I plan on leaving town - that would be Mobile - by 7AM and heading north to Birmingham or to NW Mississippi.

We're as prepared as you can be, including having two generators and all windows boarded here in West Mobile, but I don't intend to ride out a Cat 4. Me and the two dogs are leaving. If hubby wants to ride along, he'll have to get his act in gear early. I won't even pretend to be brave. Too many indications that Mobile is going to be hammered is enough for me. It took 6 months to get a new roof after Ivan and the 2% deductible ate us alive. If I'm going to have to file another insurance claim, I want to get my money's worth. And, looking at the predictions, I just might. I'd suggest to your family that they keep heading west, as fast as they can.
