Dennis could land as far West as Pascagoula right now and we need to watch close because it could go even further West. He said the Bermuda High has moved in and is blocking a more Northerly direction. He said we really need to watch this system, but, he doesn't see a direct hit with New Orleans, although, it could come closer and we could easily see conditions that we had with Cindy earlier in the week (winds of 70 mph)...

My brother said he said as far west as Pascagoula but not any further. I can buy into that.

Though I don't like the way Breck handled Cindy or Dennis, I totally disagree. For you Channel 4 fans, let's don't forget they made the same call last night so it's not like they're any better. The rest of the local mets are mostly correspondence course guys. Breck's been my favorite for years despite that I don't like the last two calls. Problem is, that's what news is all about today. Be the first to make "x" call. Everyone burned Breck after Nash said Georges was going into Mississippi like that was some major revelation. Breck had been following his dictates not to deviate from the NHC's one voice policy. Suddenly people not in the know (including a columnist for the TP) started talking about how Nash was all great and everything because he made that call. Fortunately one person was there to see his calls within the previous 24 hours which swung from north of Tampa Bay to like Galveston. If anyone wants to call a one day switch from SW FL to SE TX to Mississippi good stuff, please do.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who actually remembers how Nash handled that storm. He drew 5 lines from one end of the Gulf Coast to the other...and happened to have one pointing toward the MS coast. As always, everyone started proclaiming that, "Nash called it again!". Perception and reality are funny things. Nash may have had his days in the 60s and 70s, but most of what I saw in the 80s and 90s did not impress me. In 1997, he also said that Danny would not become a hurricane. Granted, it only became a minimal cane, but I'm sure everyone thought he called that one too.

Yeah, Nash was the man early on, but as technology grew, he kinda stayed his own course - markers and all. But I sure liked him when he was in his heyday - kinda gave us a feeling of security in times of uncertainty like these...
