Is anyone else watching the live wkrg feed? Does it strike any of you that this weather guy is not very good, or is it just me??

The African American guy?
I kind of thought that he was pretty good....
Maybe, I am used to "not so good" ones already?

He knows weather, but he has no personality! He also knows nothing about the local weather history. He is an outsider.

He seems very uncertain and hesitant to me. Plus it seems like the entire news group doesn't get along very well. But again - if the "weekend crew" is anything like the Houston weekend crew - well, that kind of explains it. (my mom says that nothing big better happen on a weekend in Houston, 'cause they won't report it 'til Monday).

But, as this is not a crew that I watch every day, maybe I should reserve judgement.

YES Absolutely - he has no TV personality - and ya know - my thought was that if he was in Houston - I would think he was some new guy from Iowa or something!!

Typically, the way the news crews work here is that they put the "seconds" on for the 24-hour, round the clock stuff just prior to a landfalling storm so they can keep the "first seaters" fresh and ready to go when the %&$# hits the fan.

you know, it is amazing how we can be all over the world and becuase of computers and the internet we can view webcams, live local tv broadcasts, local radio stations, live local weather reports and everything else from the location that hurricanes come into....its as close to being there as one can get without the actual storm going on outside

Well and to be fair to them - I think they began their "around the clock coverage" a little early. There's very little wind and rain around yet for them to report on. It must be hard to maintain some sense of urgency when you start so soon.

Yeah, that guy Alan Seals, I do know he has about 18 years in the weather industry from the advertisements I saw, plus he is a teacher too.
He used to work for WGN-CHICAGO as the weekend meteorologist...does anyone remember that?
(No one can beat Tom Skilling on WGN..one of the best).

allen sealls is lead met on wkrg. he is good and is always calm. may not have much on-air personality--- he is all business--- but we trust him. jere hough and john nodar there are pretty good, too. you can watch channel 15 from mobile at wpmi.com. david glenn and jim loznicka have more on-air charisma.

I'm watching it, but I'm sort of wondering if I'm taking bandwidth away from people who need it the most. Think we should get off?

I would think the people who need it the most are the ones that are in the storm's path. They either evacuated, listening to the coverage via radio simulcast, or will likely soon lose power. I would be surprised if anyone would be using their computer in these areas.
