I'm watching this on TV and this storm is pathetic... Hurricane Erin was worse than this in 95 and that had winds only of like 90-95? At least it's good for the city, there will be only minimal damage. I'm going to equate this to about a catagory 1 as far as damage goes... very minimal.

The inner eyewall hasn't reached Pensacola yet, very close.

However, for whatever reason, both Ivan and Dennis crapped out like this. There are severe winds, but it seems they don't translate to the surface well.

Even so, I'm sure theres 100+MPH winds out on those barrier islands and there will be severe severe damage in many locations.

Reports of sustained winds near hurricane force now in West Pensacola... so Downtown, Gulf Breeze, and the Beach are taking a harder hit.

This will probably be worse than Opal less than Ivan.

With the eye this close, the winds should be well over hurricane force right now. Pensacola is only going to get the west eyewall. Any hurricane force winds will last no longer than 30 minutes in a given area.

Are you crazy? You can say Ivan crapped out, but the amount of damage was insane. I've personally seen the clean up efforts 9 months later. Ivan was a beast.. who cares what category it was at landfall?

No, Ivan and Dennis are both extremely strong. Crapped out was a bad term to use, but compared to the strenght offshore. The areas are lucky the weakening occured near landfall.

Jeff Morrow TWC is really getting slammed around in Pensacola.

Derek havent Been over to the analysis Board latley..Any thoughts on Track once Eye Fully comes ashore? We In Biloxi were Preparing for a Good Punch since the West side of the Storm didnt Dissapate like Ivan which Still gave us 60-70mph...But local Mets here are Saying look for Almost D North Track several Hundred miles inland?

The extrememly strong winds appear to be concentrated in a very small area with this storm. Thankfully.

Unfortunately, that area will go over my brother's home as it looks now.

Sorry I was just expecting alot worse. And I don't care that eye hasn't passed yet, the hurricane force winds should have started long ago! Therefore, this storm is weak, Ivan blew winds over 100 for hours.

theres no wind, because everything is in the eye wall

to be honest, that person may be of the unsavable type that causes everyone to have to work even harder to convince to evacuate

They actually seem to WANT devestation. This is the best for all. Who cares if you had to evacuate. It was for a reason. This storm was expected to put your life in danger. People are quick to complain when a storm misses them or doesn't produce. I just don't get it. If we had a cat. 4 headed to my house we would leave if ordered to evacuate. I wouldn't complain that the storm didn't sweep away my house. I have way too many memories that could be lost.

Be thankful that many people have a home to back to.

Ivan was also a large hurricane in terms of size...

Your going to be the one who when a Cat 4 does barrel into the coast one day, we'll see on the news complaining.
