The guys on CNN just went into the eye. The sign at their hotel finally came apart - trees were falling around them - and then the wind dropped to nothing and the sky brightened up. They noted they they didn't have to scream the hear each other any more.

Wow, they're showing someone reporting via videophone in front of a hotel where the roof was ripped off. The people inside (100 or so) were evac'd to a shelter down the road...this is going to be very ugly when it's over.

The eye seems to have passed Anderson/Zarella and wind is kicking up again--a big piece of metal is beating the crap out of a car. The wind is really howling there now!

If it's the Ramada on Scenic Highway I think it is, he's pretty much at the western approach to the I-10 bridge over the bay.

They are already coming out, noting wind speed is picking up, and from oposite direction, you can hear it picking up quickly in the background.

The eye is over far western Santa Rosa county. Is that where Cooper is?

They have to be on the East side near the I-10 crossing.

Scary thing is... they are 10 miles from the coast. Winds were much stronger down there.

Not anymore, the wind is back and coming from the opposite direction, they're flipping out thinking that all the aluminum that got blown past them is going to come right back at them.

Yes, folks in the S2K chatroom are taking donations for a shipment of toilet paper to be delievered to Cooper...

There is no way in heck I'd be standing that close to a twisting sign.

The hotel with the roof coming off is supposedly Crestview- a good 30 miles inland and NNE of Ft. Walton Beach. Microburst or shoddy contracting, take your pick.

Talked to neighbors in Niceville riding it out about an hour ago, and they still had power. If we ever buy another house, it WILL have underground utilities again.

They are on the edge of the eye. Here's a map.

I don't knwo about the shoddy contracting. But I can tell you from the Tampa area that even the outer bands were very bad about microbursts.

Note: In reference to Crestview, not Anderson Cooper's lcoation.
