Well...time to rest...

#1 Postby gkrangers » Sun Jul 10, 2005 6:25 pm

Gonna go play some Battlefield 2...gotta catch up on things there....Dennis really put a dent in my playing.

Be back tomorrow for the birth of TD5! :D

But also, its been a great week for this board. The server did well and we got alot of good information and analysis by the mets and the amateurs alike.

Kudos to the mods for keeping things civil, and sorry if my personal attitude offended any of you. Get used to it. :grrr:

What a week it has been. The first storm MAJOR storm made it through and the forums were awesome. I'm ready to rest too. I know we got another storm or storms to deal with before this month is over.

Dennis isn't completely done here so I don't know how much sleep I'll get tonight(quite squally at this hour), and expected to get worse, but tomorrow and Tuesday will probably be days of relative calm, regardless of future Emily. Once it gets to the islands and the Caribbean, then it's back to almost solely that(except for the shuttle launch on Wednesday).

Same here, Brent. We're dealing with minor flooding...and Tornados that aren't being called Tornado Warnings, but rather Severe Thunderstorms.

With the way Peachtree City is calling things around here, I won't be resting for tonight, at least. (sigh)

Right now I have the luxury of watching safely from New Jersey...but I'll spend September, October, November, December in Daytona.

They evacuated my school for Frances (that was 1st right?)...then kept us evacuated for Ivan because they werne't sure of the track. We rode out Jeanne, which only gusted to moderate-strong tropical storm force in Daytona.

Yes. Over Marietta, GA (Cobb County). But a Tornado Warning wasn't called. They only called a "Severe Thunderstorm Warning" for Cobb, while they called a Tornado Warning for Fulton (see below from Tornado Warning issued for Fulton).

AT 616 PM EDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR CONTINUED TO INDICATE A TORNADO. THIS TORNADO WAS LOCATED 13 MILES NORTHWEST OF ATLANTA...OR ABOUT NEAR MARIETTA...MOVING NORTHWEST AT 40 MPH.

It's a trip how pumped up everyone gets for storms only to ease back into normal mode after they've landfalled. This is especially true for most of the active posters which is why we're on this forum as much as we are. As coastal residents know, tracking storms is almost as much of a rush as going through them. There's a lot of back and forth when the models swing one way or another. Whether you love them or fear them, the excitement is electric. This was a pretty chatoic week in New Orleans. Tuesday night we had Cindy which was supposed to pass well to our south and head off towrard the MS Gulf Coast. We were expecting an inch or so of rain and some gusts into the 20's. When she slowed down near Grand Isle, we got perhaps the best tropical storm I've ever seen (ranks slightly higher than Isidore 2002 anyway). There was no rest for the wicked, however, as IH Dennis set its sight on the northern Gulf Coast. Things could have been millions of times worse with Dennis, though most of the Panhandle and southern Alabama were spared the fury of a true Category 3 storm.

Funny how there have been 4 storms in the Gulf already, and it's only July. July is one of the slowest months for tropical fanatics as the currents and windflows are just starting to prime for the heart of the season. Well I've got a feeling that we're probably seen the better part of Gulf named storms for 2005 until the late hybrid storm season. It would be pretty incredible to see much more tropical activity down south in August and September. And while I'm sure there will be an entity or two to track, my money is on the bulk of the season shifting to the US East Coast, Canadian Maritimes and the Atlantic Ocean.

I'm due about 20 hours of sleep, so you can bet I'll be knocking out around 9:30 tonight!
