Lucky Not To Be Dennis The Menace
Pensacola, and all of the Florida panhandle fared a lot better than originally thought - Dennis certainly had a very small eyewall, the intensity diminished just prior to landfall and it was a very fast moving storm. We got lucky this time - it could have been so much worse.

Not ALL of the panhandle (I consider my area, just south of Tallahassee) fared "better than expected"... I can speak for Wakulla County when I say that....
My grandfather says that this is the WORST he has EVER seen it (he's speaking of the storm surge) in Wakulla County... and, to think, this thing made landfall near PENSACOLA, many miles away from here. God forbid we ever have anything close to the intensity of Dennis make direct landfall in Apalachee Bay... it'd be Goodbye Wakulla, and Tallahassee would be much closer to the beach.
