What's going on here?
With Dennis, FL gets seven tropical system landfalls in less than a year, with number eight on deck. I wonder if this has ever happened before?
Bonnie Aug 04
Charley Aug 04
Ivan Sept 04
Frances Sept 04
Jeanne Sept 04
Arlene July 05
Dennis July 05
EDIT- corrected to change Cindy to Arlene- my mistake.

So, with Ivan right next door, was it - what, harsh language - that tore the jack-you-know-what out of Pensacola and other Florida areas? I don't like hearing the endless warnings to NOT just go by the location of the eye or the projected center-line - that the storm is dangerous for many miles all around, but now since the same eye, etc didn't cross a certain boundary, then said area(s) weren't "hit".

Were talking about landfalls not what areas were effected.
Well I guess you could consider Ivan II a Florida Landfall...

All met technicalities aside, any place that sees hurricane force winds has been "hit" by a hurricane.
Try telling anyone from this church in Pensacola that Ivan didn't hit their church and homes:
My parents, who lived near New Orleans told me stories about Camille. I was a small child then and I don't remember much, but the stories of destruction and flooding are vivid to me. A 15 foot storm surge. Yet, Camille hit some 40 miles away, to the EAST, putting them on the "weak" side of the storm.

Have you seen Gulf Shores? Or Orange Beach? Pensacola got the press (and rightfully so) but Baldwin County was ravaged.

I say we need to drop all the county and state lines...many AMERICANS suffered in those hours of Ivan. And 'they' say Ivan was a cat 2? If Dennis was a low 4 or a high 3 then 'they' need to go back and rethink this categorizing stuff. Ivan was a terror for everyone around it. Plain and simple.
A couple of days after Cindy rolled through I remember thinking how cold the Gulf waters were which may be a slight reason why Dennis had such a hard time at the end.
But Ivan, class by itself. Alot of people are still crying over that one. From here to Mobile to Appilachicola. But if Ivan hadn't come through last year we'd probably had seen close to the same devastation with Dennis. Ivan cleaned house around here. One thing though, Dennis FLEW through here. Go to work expecting to stay a week but end up coming home the same day? Power up the same day or within a few days?
Nope, something weird happened with Dennis. Something I don't think we'll ever understand.
I have my gut feelings about it though.
