? about SAL (saharan air layer)

On the tropical anaylisis board Derek mentioned recently that SAL may be affecting Emily. Is there any specific type of sat. maps that can detect SAL?. I've often wondered about that. Thanks!! :D

If it is SAL inhibition the storm should beat it and intensify...

I always used the Wisconsin University site for this, but their SAL analysis pages are down for reconstruction. Been that way for over a month. :grr:

Color enhanced WV imagery can give you a good idea, though.
