Emily-likely a western GOM/Mexico Threat
Most if not all the guidance indicates a strong subtropical ridge remaining to the North of Emily for the next 5 days. It appears likely that Emily will pass near Barbados in the Windward Islands Thursday morning. Emily should then continue w/wnw and pass near Jamaica Saturday. Beyond, Saturday, I think we have a system passing over or near the Yucatan on its way towards Mexico/Texas.
Will we have Frankin soon?

Just about every storm has missed or turned away from the Upper TX Coast. Eventually one of these storms will slam the Houston-Galveston areas. I will be watching Emily very carefully over the next week.

I stated yesterday that I thought Emily was a Louisiana storm but this really is looking like a Texas/La threat in my very amateur opinion unless a vigorous trough pushes down from the west and forces it a little further east, but even then I don't think it makes it past the Central Louisiana coast...IMO

Exactly my feelings. We're a bit TOO lucky here.
yep, like I was saying in another thread...this area has lots of big ole trees that haven't been trimmed by strong wind in a while. That's just ONE reason we'd really be in trouble if we got a big one.

Or the simple fact that the last major hurricane anyone remembers striking here was Alicia. And that was over 20 years ago. People have forgotten the damage a hurricane can cause.

Well I can say the people down here (Clear Lake) haven't forgotten. Everytime there is a storm out there people bring up Alicia. So hopefully people know what could be coming. But there has been so much new development....it could get real nasty.

Emily as I stated on other threads has her sights on the Western GOM or maybe SW La. I don't think she will hit as far south as Mexico but it still so far out that you really can't even write off ANYWHERE along the GOM coastline.

I don't get it. How would she landfall in the panhandle if the ridge is there?
GDuck, he is trying to be funny... He also does not realize that making statements like that are very misleading.

I have seen many storms headed for the W GOM dissipate. I have seen storms such as Isidore turn SW and die over Mexico. Watched Gilbert give us a scare and continue WNW into Mexico. Watched Andrew and Lili turn N into LA. Will Emily be one that does not turn away?????

Lets hope so, I've waited 20 years for mother nature to show me her stuff once again. Too many times Florida has taken the beating, lets let the great state of Texas handle this one. The resolve of the people (thx GW for the verbage) in this state will allow for a quick rebound from the destruction sure to unfold should landfall be in our area, and as the nutjob that I am, I await our due penance with lawn chair, popcorn, and beer cooler ready on the south lawn.
cheers,
loon
(p.s. this is were the hate posts come along about how could I, why would I, and you should be thankful stuff....I know I know...but, I won't change, I enjoy seeing Mother Natures wrath and expect the same whenever she visits again, its inevitable to happen, I can not "wish" it into existance...so sorry)
