Interesting chart comparing 2005 hurricane season to 1933...

This should put this year in a much better perspective.

Look how this season is WAY ahead of normal. If this keeps going up through first half of August, there will be NO doubt in my mind, that this one will be a record-breaking season (named storms, hurricanes, major hurricanes).

FWIW, as bad as 2004 was, 2005 will probably not compare...

If this stair-stepping trend continues, extrapolation suggests that we will reach 12-14 named storms by the end of August.

Then comes September...

Yeah, if you draw a perfect line, or as perfect as possible, "up the stairs", it takes us to about 28-30 storms this season. Good luck to the Atlantic to keep up that pace... :lol:

Now that is scary since it has been layed out on a chart for me. I knew this season was nuts/crazy but that it just became a reality for me that this year is going to be...well you know!

If things keep going the way they are going, the 1933 record is in serious jeopardy. It will be interesting to see, with the NAO currently in a negative phase, if we will have the majority of storms, at least the Cape Verde storms become fishes from here on out.

Some of the mets on here have said the NAO is not that well understood, and changes frequently so anything is possible.

I think the 2004 pic is missing Ivan. There is no storm from August 27ish to Sept. 9. Also, it is only up to 13 by mid October, when it should be 14 due to Nicole. Still, good representation. We're a month ahead of last year, and last year still didn't start by now!
