stronger and more west, but the question remains, are they building the ridge too strong? And will EMILY shift to the right once it turns the corner on western CUBA a la Charley?

If she keeps sliding to the WSW she may weaken across the cyclone graveyard of the SA Coast.

That's insane! I guess I never heard about it, as I wasn't around these forums much in March.

If I remember correctly, Ivan was almost that far South when he started across the Caribbean and we know what he did. I'm not suggesting a repeat performance, just the fact he made it find throught the "graveyard".

I remember it. Everyone said it was a "fluke" and dismissed it.

I think we could be witnessing a historic change in the earth's climate. This season may or may not be a major part of it. But I think it is.

This is my opinion only. Period. But when you look back at 2004 and this Hurricane season so far, I ask, is it possible that this 50 year cycle will be far worse than the last one? After all, we only have a little over 100 years of records to really use for a database. Who knows what it was like 500 or 600 years ago.

This bit from NASA is a bit dated, but its information is still accurate (the only new storm is the Brazil one) :

Tracks of storms mentioned in the answer:

I remember all the Ivan hitting our area alerts. Watching folks line up for 4 hours at Home Depot for wood. Cleaning off the shelves of local grocers. It was unreal.

Then Ivan missed. It was a real relief that close to the Charley landfall.
