Looking good Emily. But at this rate, Cozumel and my friends going there are screwed.

I don't see anything but uninhibited strengthening until landfall.

Center was trochoid wobbling on visible...

Unless she encounter's some significant shear, this is beginning to look quite ominous.

Why? There's nothing particularly funny about this nor is any threat to your area. Some time down the road you may need to be preparing for some rough weather, but right now the chances are far better that you will get a severe thunderstorm not at all tropical.

It was just a comment, but I will "split hairs" for you to clarify:

First, The "Peekaboo" by gkrangers was in jest - hence the "laugh" comment. Obviously there is nothing funny about Emily having an eye for the first time on an infrared satellite loop.

Second, the cry part has nothing to do with me. I'm not that self-centered. Someone is gonna get slammed by this one, and it won't be pretty.

Thirdly, chances are that it is not a Galveston threat, but it is still WAY TOO EARLY to declare this thing not being a threat. This storm isn't even past Jamaica yet, so how can you, or anyone for that matter, declare this as "not a threat".

Fourth, we have a very moist, TROPICAL airmass over Houston right now with pwats over 2". The chance of a severe thunderstorm is actually quite low. The biggest threat we have is from flooding.

And lastly, whether or not we have a cyclone making landfall has little to do with it being "tropical" or not. Even still, some of the moisture coming south is actually pinwheeling away from the remnants of Dennis, which falls in line with your definition of "tropical".

in the not being selfish arena.

I would prefer a US strike over a mexico..... we are far better equipped to evacuate and respond to these disasters.

where a Cat 3-4 might cause significant damage, down in mexico it would be catasrtophic.

Considering it's only Mid-July, we aren't even close to done. I can see his/her point.

Well I know how you feel. Not that it’s a "threat to me" at this time but my thoughts were. OK what are we in for this season? It's not funny but it's "funny". Then you think how many times are we going to be in the cone again. How many people these storms could effect. How many people they effect for months after. The divorce, suicide and domestic violence rate skyrocketed after the 3 storms that hit FL last year in the same basic area. If you look at all that and think of that then you want to almost cry. Not for selfish reason just overall possible loss for all involved. That is truly sad.

I see both of your points... that we've "had enough", but also that we are MUCH more equipped to handle it.
