Apple cider vinegar...not really that bad with some honey mixed with it in water.

Add it with some lukewarm water, bfez, and it makes a nice gargle...even better than strong alcohol-based Listerine!

Another remedy for splinters...

Rub Vaseline on the splinter and then put a bandaid on it. Wear Bandaid over night and then take it off in the morning...it works like a charm!
