WHAT??? Rain in Austin?

#1 Postby Kelarie » Fri Jul 08, 2005 8:06 am

We had rain in Austin last night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES!!! It was wonderful, even the electricity going off for a few minutes was wonderful. The lightning and thunder was wonderful.

It was a magical moment for me last night. It was rain.

I had to share.

You're welcome. I believe that came down from the DFW area. ;) Yesterday was a very nice and refreshing day up here. Most areas got some rain, though I only got about .10" at my house, but it was cloudy the whole day. Highs were in the 80's. Looks like it's back to seasonable highs and dry. But that's okay, it's summer in NTX afterall.

Snicker.... I was sure surprised when it started pouring!

Our lights flickered but never went out. Temp on our outdoor thermometer dropped frpm 109.6F tp 96F in a few minutes...

Never thought I'd be glad for 96F! (and muggy) but it kept raining and cooled off even more :)

Kelarie--

Your post cracked me up-- I moved to Seattle for rain! Lived in Austin for 12 years, and South Carolina for 2, now I'm here. But I remember those hot damn summer days (you had 104 yesterday, no?) that ended in lovely cool rain... people would run out in the street dancing and laughing. At least for drought-breaking August rains, they would. I love Austin when it rains after the heat like that! Glad you appreciated it.

One thing I miss here so far-- real storms. :D

Last nights rains were great...and the fireworks that went along with them. WOW.

Was looking at the forecast and it is supposed to rain again tonight and tomorrow as well. AND the NWS out of San Antonio mentions that the ridge is weakening and that Emily will probably hit South Texas and we might see rain. So we shall see.

I hope this continues, don't want to have to water my yard anymore....
