Why is Emily so small

Does any know why she's so small, and since she is now, will that change much? :?:

Floyd was pretty small too, compared to Andrew.

I think you got them backwards. Floyd was huge next to the small Andrew. In fact Andrew had hurricane force winds for landfall outwards of 45 nmi. Emily only has 25 nmi. Same as charley had landfall.

It is not totally understood why some hurricanes become so large and others remain very compact, but it mostly has to do with the kind of disturbance that originated it.

Tropical waves in the Atlantic and monsoon troughs in the Western Pacific tend to originate the largest hurricanes. Cold-core lows which transition to tropical lows generally develop the smallest hurricanes. Again, this is generally.

One thing to remember is that it doesn't matter how large or small a hurricane is, strength doesn't relate to it...

Well, it's good that it's so small because that means a smaller area of impact and more fragile system.

Frances, Ivan, And Jeanne were fairly large hurricanes as well.

Given the option to get hit by a small hurricane or a large hurricane of simular intensity I'd pick the small one. The big one will weaken slower....MGC
