OUTBREAK LIKELY, PDS WATCH ISSUED IN OK...2:45 PM EDT

A tornado outbreak is likely this afternoon and evening across Oklahoma, and east central Kansas including in Manhattan, Topeka, Kansas City, and Wichita, KS and in Oklahoma City and Tulsa, Oklahoma. A PDS tornado watch is in effect for Oklahoma including in Oklahoma City at this time.

Checking out the latest maps reveals a warm front moving north into Kansas. South of that front, the atmosphere is very warm and unstable. A dryline is developing over Oklahoma and moving east and northeast along with a developing area of low pressure and an approaching upper disturbance from the west. All of this plus strong southwest winds aloft and southeast winds at the surface is a perfect recipe for strong to violent tornadoes again today in east central Kansas, but likewise east central Oklahoma is in this threat and later today Missouri.

A very dangerous day and a public information statement has been issued on http://www.spc.noaa.gov It's not everyday we see that. Please keep and eye on this.

DESTRUCTIVE TORNADOES, LARGE HAIL 3 INCHES IN DIAMETER, THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.

Watch it in Salinas, Manhattan, Riley, Wichita, Topeka, and Kansas City.

OK City and Wichita is under another PDS tornado watch as well. A very dangerous situation. Deadly tornadoes are expected. Very large tornadoes, the kind that u can't survive on the first floor of your home can be expected. get underground if a warning is issued.

When this PDS Tornado Watch was issued this afternoon... there wasn't much if anything indicated on weather radars. They developed very quickly, like expected.

There have been a few tornado outbreak anniversaries in the first week of May. The May 1999 Oklahoma City event and some that were posted in the "Weather History" forum.

March is typically the most violent month, April of course is too and then the above mention May... June through August can be violent with the heat and humidity continuing with strong surface fronts, other features at the surface and those in the mid and upper levels of the atmosphere, as well.
