Well, I am 58 and have been tracking storms since about age 10. I never remember being without a tracking chart close at hand during hurricane season. Does anyone else on this board have one of the magnetic tracking charts hanging up in their house? It gets lots of comments but people are attracted to it and can't leave it alone.
I am one of the females on the board. I rarely post but read often. I have learned a lot here. I really appreciate those of you who are professionals teaching the rest us some of the finer points of forcasting.

Well I guess I better jump into this...
I'm 23...will graduate with my BS in Earth Science next spring...hoping to be a meterologist someday down the road.
The first big Hurricane I can remember was Hugo, in 1989 when I was 7. Seeing the reporter talking to Dan Rather with the palms blowing softly in the background the night before it hit gave me the first feeling of what they meant by the "calm before the storm."
But the first hurricane I can vividly remember (both before and after it hit) and the one that ultimately changed my life, was the storm that occured three years later - Hurricane Andrew. I was 10...and I can remember every lil detail of what I was doing that fateful weekend.

AAAwww HECK........I am 46...gonna be 21 in September.
I never paid much attention to the tracking of hurricanes, until Fran actually damaged the Fort Bragg NC area, something I didn't think could happen. Imagine my surprise when it hit. From then on, with the aid of the internet, I pay attention. I still, after all of this time, DO NOT understand the technicalities of it all, but......I am learning with the help from all of you wonderful people.

Interestingly enough, the averages thus far for the board of those who posted both their age and time tracking is:
Average Age = 36.6 years
Average Time Tracking = 22.1
Our elder is 59, and our youngest is 14!
And here they are, sorted alphabetically...

Ok...Ok...
I grew up in Kansas. Kansas!
I have been tracking storms...from Kansas...since I was 9...although I distinctly remember presenting something on how hurricanes work in 1st grade (7 years old?).
I have been forecasting storms since 1996...so that's 9 years now?
As a side note...I got engaged 2 days before Andrew made landfall in Miami...while in Miami.
Oh...and I am 34.

I'm 37.(female) Been interested in severe weather since I moved to Florida in '89. I moved from West Virginia. After moving out of the mountains I was completely fascinated by looking to the sky and actually being able to see the afternoon thunderstorms we get here in Florida build. Just amazing. Became interested in hurricanes after watching Jeff Flock's coverage of Hugo. I have a great deal to learn about the science of it but am so glad I found this board to learn from all of you. I have also managed to create some interest in weather with my 12 year old son. So, we are learning together.

I have been fascinated and frightened by hurricanes since Dora, started tracking when I lived in Tampa 87-89, ignored them while in Dallas 89-92, and obsessed with them since returning in 92. Just had to give you a complicated one!! (oh...and my first crush was on Frank Winterling's son in 1st grade)

Now, now. They're much more intelligent than you or I as well.
***says one of the youngsters!!***![]()
And i'm ridiculed for this? Yes, i'm nearly 17... But i'm stating the truth. Heck, no one my age nor younger has even the correct school experience to even CLAIM to be more intelligent in this feild than anyone 20+.
