A personal question.

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

I guess it's unusual for someone my age, especially female, to be so interested in weather phenomena. Most of my friends are content to just ask occasionally what's happening with so and so.

I've become more technically oriented as I've aged and had more time to pursue interests and am often referred to as the gadget guru as I try ro keep up with the latest technology. Next to you kids, I'm probably light years behind but for my generation..well, let's just say I'm an oddity!!!LOL

I think it makes for a great mix to have so much diversity here. I do tend to get frustrated by very bold statements without an "IMO" such as "it is definitely coming here" (or going there) or "it WILL be a Cat 5" but you can chalk that up to crotchety old age- NOT!!!!

Despite our age differences we are still a cohesive group and many of us consider this a family. Let's all play nice and please remember to respect your elders. :roflmao:

45. I have been tracking storms since I was 6 (Hurricane Inez 1966). Since Inez I just kept tracking storms with a map and a pencil, nothing more. I began to understand mother nature after Hugo 1989.

I have to say, one of my favorite movie scenes of all time is from Fried Green Tomatoes when two young chickies steal a parking spot from Kathy Bates' character, Evelyn:

Young chickies: "Face it lady, we're younger and faster."

*Evelyn rams the crap out of their car*

Evelyn: "Face it girls, I'm older and I have more insurance."

TAWANDA!

Hey Ixolib, you can put me down for 8 years storm tracking (sorry about the vagueness).

Will do - at work now (shhhhh). I'll make another update this afternoon/evening!!

Well Hurricane Queen, you are not the oldest on S2K. I'm 63 ! :D Two Naples residents #1 and 2. How about that !
I have been a Hurricane Junkie for over 50 years and a Weather Junkie for 58 years. I still remember the Blizzard of 1947. The forecast was for Snow Flurries. Twenty Five Inches later, the Snow stopped. :D
The first Hurricane that caught my interest was Carol in 1954. Ever since then, i was hooked. I have witnessed about 12 Hurricanes and Tropical Storms. Some directly and some indirectly. In 1955 we had Connie and Diane within one week. Living on the water at the time, we were always in harms way, but we survived.
It's great we have young people interested in Hurricanes. I can relate. Of course, everyone is young, compared to me.

43, been fascinated with Hurricanes since riding out Hurricane Camille
in my Elementary school way back in 1969. It's something I never want
to experience again, but I admire their eerie beauty and power from
the satellite pics. I also enjoy the technical info I get from Professional
meteorologists on this forum.

I'm 47, going on either 67 or 17, depending on the time of day when you ask....

Camille hooked me on hurricanes; Agnes in '72 reeled me in when it dumped more than a foot of rain on DC, and a little creek down the road washed away the houses of several of my friends.

With the internet, the last few years have added to my knowledge exponentially, particularly the awesome experts, both pro and amateur on this board. I now know waaay more about the weather than friends/family, but when I come to this board, mostly I think "I'm not worthy! I'm not worthy!"

35 Been interested in the weather ever since we got TWC on cable in the early eighties. I remember staying up late waiting on a line of severe storms to past through our area. I got really interested in hurricanes last year because of Ivan. I guess there was a more personal connection because the family has a condo in Fort Walton Beach.

[quote="Ixolib"]Interestingly enough, the averages thus far for the board of those who posted both their age and time tracking is:

Average Age = 36.6 years
Average Time Tracking = 22.1

Our elder is 59, and our youngest is 14!

And here they are, sorted alphabetically...

Ok: you shamed me into actually telling my age. I thought people would do the math. 27 years of tracking and I'm 38 years old. Grew up in Baton Rouge. The first storm I remember was Edith, '71, but started tracking with interest when my fifth grade teacher gave us all tracking charts. Now live in O-town and experienced more hurricane weather in just 6 weeks last year here than my entire life.

I am 35, and been really intersted in tropical weather for about 2.5 years now. I moved from Michigan (where I was interested in snow) to North Carolina, when this "thing" called Isabel came through. Got really interested when it started to head toward my new home (think I found Storm2K shortly after that).

I do remember going through Gloria in CT, and Bob in Maine (and loosing power in both those for several days). Of course that was before the internet, and TV was the only way that I knew to find out any info (and they didn't seem to say much about either of them, but then again I was not obsessed at that point...

I'm older than dirt and can recall when Jeff Davis was President. Got really hooked on 'Cane tracking during Elena in '85, but have always been a weather buff.
