I am 38...almost. I have been fascinated since 1979 and hurricane frederic. I lived in birmingham at the time and remember how windy it was up there. about 5 months later i visited gulf shores and was amazed by the destruction. I have been hooked ever since. Thanks to Ivan and Dennis I have had more close up experience that I ever would have thought. I hate the aftermath but am still attracted to them.

Sorry, Ixolib -- you'll have to update again. I turned 65 on July 6th and that makes me the oldest one truthfully posting so far. Come on Dixie fess up.
I've been watching storms for longer than most of you have been alive, 1953 to be exact. Been tracking them since I joined this board last August.
MWatkins - are we the only two people in the state from Kansas? Don't believe I've ever met another one. Topeka born.

I might as well help the statistics increase. I'm 57 and have been tracking storms about 44 years since Carla. Back then my parents had a weekend place near Galveston and they lost the roof on it. We live on Clear Lake near Johnson Space Center so any hurricane heading this way definitely gets our attention.

Hi,
I`m really late reading this post.....Think I can claim the title of Oldest Member of this board....I am 69 years old, and have been interested in Hurricanes since the Late 40`s and early 50`s. I lived in NJ then, but still was fasinated with then..
Have lived in Florida since the late 70`s and last year was my first real brush with Frances and Jeanne....Having this forum helped me keep my sanity .
Thanks so much for all the help you give...
Sandy

What a way to start posting at Storm2K!
I'm 46 years old and started my obsession with storms and hurricanes with Eloise in 1975, so I'm celebrating 30 years of storm tracking. But my first big experience was Hugo in 1989.
Since this is my first post, let me tell you I'm a happy married woman for 25 years now, with two sons (23.5 and 20 years old). I'm in the beautiful island of Puerto Rico (born and raised). I can't explained how obsessed I became when some strong wave develops in the east Atlantic, is like party time of storm watching for me and a group of friends from a local weather forum. By the way through them I learned about Storm2K. I don't mind the lack of sleep of these watching days but I'm ashamed of the disappointment I feel when a system went near our island but not too close to make us feel the rush of preparations for a possible strike.
I don't like us or anybody to be affected
, I just like the thrill of the storm approaching .
Thanks for your excellent work. This is one of my meteorology courses online

I am 44 been fascinated by weather since I was a little kid. I was deathly afraid of tornadoes......thank you Dorothy and ToTo! My Father couldn't stand that I was so afraid so he always had me sit on our West facing front porch during thunderstorms to watch them and explain them. (seems a mite bit dangerous to me now) Had many brushes with tornadoes as a child never experienced one until I was 21 though. Since my family always vacationed during the summer on the gulf I had a few evacuations to go through for hurricanes which scared me but of course my Father thought it was great. Admittedly if you are visiting cousins near Gulfport the only waves you will see is if there is storms.

And yet another update... Our most elder member now comes in at 72 (EDIT = osstrom), and our youngest remains at 14. After three updates, 143 members have given up the goods on their ages and time tracking, bring the averages to:
Average Age = 37.6 years
Average Time Tracking = 26.7 years
And here's the latest... Thanks again Stormcenter for the thread!!

I'm feeling younger every day
I'm 48 and have been tracking the tropics since about 1976. The facination actually started earlier when my family passed through southern Mississippi in 1969 about 4 months after Camille. The devastation was something I will never forget. I had the opportunity to experience several typhoons while I was stationed on Guam and I was hooked for life.
