#1 Postby Pebbles » Sat Jul 16, 2005 12:34 am

Take time to listen to Power 106 which is Jamaican radio station that always has wonderful broadcasting when hurricanes threaten. I just luv these guys. They are not expecting a direct eye hit but still there talking about conditions.

I've tuned into it for the past couple of evenings. I remember listening to the station during Hurricane Ivan. The Pastor's show was on that night and he was such an a calming influence to the people calling in.

Remember it well. In fact, the thread (below) with all our discussion about Jamacia Radio ended up going 28 pages! That was a helluva night.... Like you said, very calm people in the face of potential disaster!!

Yea, they do sound calm and laid back about the storm. Maybe some of our on-air types in this country can learn a lesson or two from them in covering hurricanes and the such.

they're making note of the seriousness but also laughing and having fun.. that's good to put people's minds at ease even during this time.

It's really not that serious a situation for Jamacia at the moment. They'll get a bunch of rain and a little bit of wind, but the hurricane force winds are forecast to remain well south of the island.

The sustained hurricane force winds will stay south but with such a powerful (and strengthening and growing) system to their south, I would be surprised if they don't get at least a few hurricane force gusts.
