Storm2k welcomes the large number of new members since the
2005 Hurricane Season kicked off!
For the new members as well as the seasoned veterans of Storm2k,
please remember that while storm2k is a nonprofit organization,
basic operating costs are approximately $2000 per year.
With continued growth, which is a great thing, we will reach a point
that the server will require upgrades. That, in combination with
regular maintenance runs the operating costs up.
Without a doubt, storm2k gets most of its visits during the hurricane
season. Please remember that storm2k is a fully operational web page
that runs 24x7x365. We can't just cut operations on and off, they
have to be continuous.
I've been to many weather web pages over the years, but none
compare to storm2k. The offerings are second to none!
Well maintained forums where you can chat with professional
meteorologists, amateur's, and even newbies to weather.
There's something for everyone here - that's what makes storm2k
head and shoulders above the rest.
Wouldn't you hate to come back to storm2k next June and find that it's
not here? If the bills do not get paid, that could very well happen!
If you find storm2k a valuable resource for you, please consider
making a donation to help pay the bills. If you have already donated,
thank you for your donation - every donation is GREATLY appreciated!!

Agree drezee! http://www.freerepublic.com does that and it works great. Sort of a cheerleading incentive.

I'd just hate to see storm2k go away - we can't expect Marshall and
Chad to pony up $2K a year or more !! So everyone needs to chip in!
i popped for 50 earlier in the week and my badger challenge is in effect, 200 more if they win the big ten and 250 on top of that if they win the national championship, dont laugh they werent that far away last year. we have gators, noles, lsu tigers, etc all in this thing so pony up folks, just think about how low your cost per clisk is, lets face it we all hit this site too many times too count so pay up you will be a better person for it.

Perhaps you missed the giant sticky at the top of the forum?
Anyhow, donating is not a bad idea (I need to try again; the first time I tried, Paypal's screen was perpetually loading). That said, I don't think there is a risk that Storm2k will "go away". More likely someone would buy the site before that happened.

Funny you say that Marshall.
While out slaving in the yard, excuse me, cutting the grass, I thought
I'd appoint myself as the storm2k director of funding.
I'm gonna BEG, PLEAD, HOWL!!
Seriously folks, if you enjoy storm2k 1% as much as I do, you'll give.
No amount is too small or too large.
For you folks that want to do this via check, I'll get with Marshall for a mailing address.
Again, I appreciate everyone donating. The contributions let the folks
that run the board focus on what they need to do - RUN THE BOARD,
and not worry about how they'll pay the bills, especially in the slow months.

So did I. In fact, I was the one who suggested a fundraiser which spawned that thread.
But to be fair to donors, a clear goal of how much needs to be raised must be set out, and how much progress toward that goal has been made.
Asking for money all the time without doing that is like those televangelist shows at 2 am. I'm not AT ALL saying S2K is doing that. But it must not fall into that trap.Agua wrote:I gave earlier in the week. I was just curious why you started a new thread for this when there's one stickied at the very top of this forum styled "Site funding request".

No - Storm2k is not in danger of going away right now. Fortunately, a
few folks have carried the load to keep s2k funded. The biggest problem
is, by far, that traffic gets much slower when Hurricane Season ends.
Storm2k does not end with Hurricane season, and donations get extremely
sparse in the winter. In my opinion, it's not very fair for a very small
number of people to carry the load, especially during the Holidays and
tax season. If everyone chips in some now, we don't have to worry until next summer! YEA!!!!!!
I designated myself to make sure that we all chip in enough to keep
storm2k fully funded for the next year, which will take around $2000.
Nobody asked me to do it, I took it upon myself. I have my own web
page just for my personal weather station, and it is resource consuming.
It takes time and money to maintain and run sites.
Marshall has some exciting news to pass along, and as he stated,
it will be posted on the board news forum in the next day or so.

making a donation to help pay the bills. If you have already donated,

I agree. I would also hate to see storm 2k go away. So much valuable information from the pros and also from the ameteurs and weather enthusiasts. I am happy to give. And as WXman57 said, paypal is quick and easy
