Report from a Cozumel resident:

"I just spoke with my friend Albert who lives on Ave. 35 near Calle 3 Sur. He hasn't ventured too far from his home but said the damage in his immediate area was not as bad as we feared after seeing some of the speculative reports on TV this morning. He lost power around 9pm last night but kept land and cell phone service. At his home the only damage was some downed tree limbs and he said most of that had already been cleared by city workers. He hadn't seen any downed power poles but did see a few downed lines. He wasn't sure if they were cable or phone or electric. There is a police sub-station not too far from his house and he said they lost their 100 foot radio communications antenna. He also said while there was heavy rain, he described it as a relatively "dry" storm without as much rain as expected."

This article mentions 'spectacular demolishments' and heavy flooding in Cozumel. In Cancun there was heavy beach erosion and waves of 4 meters in height were observed between Punta Cancun and Punta Nizuc.

umm, 4 meters in height not 12... I was mentally approximating that and spit out my conversion instead of the actual number....[/i]

Hey Scorpion....nice call on the DUDD that is Emily...you know...the barely cat 3 that nobody believed you about? I think reinstatement of you posting rights needs to be based on your eating crow and admitting that you have no clue.

Nice call...just hoped nobody there saw your posts and listened to you.

Just like in any large area, there will be places that flood and places that get heavily damaged, and other places that hold up well. The reports I have found from the highly populated areas of Cozumel have been very encouraging so far... minimal damage considering the powerful storm, and limited flooding reported. Electricity is down, but phone and cell phones are working.
