Currently reading "Perks to Being a Wallflower." Don't ask... My friend wants me to read it. So I wonder, what ARE the perks to being a wallflower... You get to smell yourself all day?

This Wednesday evening, I'm leaving for a 4-day vacation to Chicago and bringing The Historian by E. Kostova. Between catching up with old friends, I hope to get a good start (it's a l-o-n-g book!). Also, I've ordered 1776 from zooba.com, which should arrive while I'm out of town.

Swimdude,

You would enjoy reading a book titled "Peace Like A River" by Leif Enger. :)

My Dad read that book and now I've been reading it.

He's now reading one about the Mississippi River Flood of 1927...which I'll be reading after I finish "Peace Like A River."

Well, I actually haven't even opened it yet. But on the basis of your quick, enthusiastic response, I'm going to work harder at getting all my "weekend work" done ASAP so I can begin the book before Wednesday evening on the plane. Thanks for the encouragement!

I finished reading it yesterday. It was something else. I am going to have to read it again. I do recommend at least reading book 5 before if it has been awhile. I read them all again over the last few weeks preparing for the release of this one. Let me know what you think.

It is by David McCullough, the Pulitzer prize winning author (for biographies of Truman and John Adams), and it is about the beginning of the American revolution. I read his bio of John Adams and enjoyed it thoroughly.

Here's a book at read in two days. Couldnt put it down.

The Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver.

OMG, it is simply the best book I've ever read in my life. I think Karan and Miss Mary would love it for sure.

:uarrow: Alicia, I loved it, too. Have you read The Poisonwood Bible by Kingsolver? It's fairly long, but excellent.

I've just finished Anita Shreve's latest (somewhat predictable; I enjoyed the "story-within-the-story" more than the main plot) and have started On Beauty by Zadie Smith .

Thanks for reviving this thread! :)

Last night I finished reading Garlic & Sapphires by Ruth Reichl. It's about her "secret life" as a restaurant critic for the NY Times. Very good book with some pretty decent recipes too. Also read Stephen King's "Cell" last week. I havent turned my cell phone on since then.

I am reading Wicked. My brother suggested it to me. It is an interesting book, but it doesn't read very fast.

White Shadow by Ace Atkins. Anyone from the Tampa area especially Ybor City would enjoy reading this book if they like mystery novels. The book concerns the mysterious death of Charlie Wall, former mafioso.

Libri ad Urbe Conditem by Titius Livius. It's about Hannibal and the 2nd Punic War. A nice story, too bad I have to read it in Latin for highschool, but I'm sure you can find a decent translation somewhere, if you're interested in an epic story with really nice descriptions of some of the largest battles ever fought by humans.
