Florida Thunderstorms; Next week?

#1 Postby ColdFront77 » Fri May 09, 2003 6:39 pm

I am very glad to observe myself and hear my local forecast... Thunderstorms may occur across portions of Florida Tuesday and/or Wednesday (The Weather Channel currently indicates "isolated thunderstorms" as early as Monday).

It is too early to say for sure if there will be severe weather with this activity. However, the cold front that has been responsible for producing the severe weather across the south-central, midwest and portions of the southeastern United States over the last five days will finally make some progress southeastward as it slowly weakens.

An upper level high pressure system over the Gulf of Mexico was moving slowly toward the Florida peninsula, but never really made it overhead... has kept the surface frontal system quite a bit north and northwest of the Sunshine State. Currently, there is a surface high pressure system over the southwestern Atlantic.

I will enjoy watching the possibilities of these thunderstorms, especially so because some forecasters have been saying this entire week that central Florida would be hot, humid and very dry for one to two, even up to three weeks! I had a feeling the upper level high pressure system would "break down"/move west-southwestward away from the Florida peninsula.

I hope you guys get some of it Tom. Because im sure you all could use that rain and a break from that heat.....It does look like a good possibility by the way especially in the central and northern parts of the state.......

Yep, you can certainly use some rain. Hopefully nothing severe though.

We sure can use the rain, Harry and Donna. Temperatures have been in the low to mid 90s for all week, above normal... for early May.

I wouldn't be surprised to see severe thunderstorms even with a weakening cold front. Our distance south of the frontal system has Florida not only in the low to mid 90s, but dewpoints in the mid to upper 60s to 70 degrees.

I wouldn't like to see anything too severe, but being a weather enthusiast, something more than this "boring hot weather" would be appreciated. :D

You're right Tom, it does get kinda boring when you're stuck in the same weather pattern for a while, no matter what it is. :D

I hope you get the rain, Tom. If you cool down, maybe I'll warm up.
