Well no surprised by that really as it is not a US landfall but regardless of where they have to be on alert 24/7 until it makes landfall.

That was my thought too... I still think it's absurd. It's their job to cover the weather.
Oh well, I won't have to bother changing the channel to see the tropical update.

I disagree.
The only effect to the US (and nobody really cares about extreme south texas) is some rainbands and maybe some TS force winds.
Why should they care?
Besides, what coverage can they give?
You can see all the satellite and radar loops you want online. Its not like TWC gives any insightful forecast discussion or anything beyond the NHC public advisory.

Did anyone notice at the top and bottom of the hrs they would have Steve Lyons and Jim Cantore in small screens. They would say let's go to Jim first but after Jims live shot they would go back to Vivian Brown or whoever but never let Steve Lyons give any anaylisis. They did that at both 7 and 7:30, was strange!

A hurricane is a hurricane, here in Puerto Rico or Mexico or Texas. TWC failed to cover an important event, so close to USA. Right now Emily is doing some unusual movements and everybody can learn from that.

I used to live in Harlingen when I was with Bellsouth Cellular...They got great Citrus Fruit

Its as far detached from the highly populated areas the news focuses on as possible.
So thats just why there isn't any national media interest.

And actually the media doesn't even cover storms like Ivan, Frances and Jeanne extensively. Ivan and Frances didn't wipe out their landfall areas and CNN, FNC, MSNBC were back to covering the latest high speed car chase within 36 hours.
Unless a hurricane wipes out an entire metropolitan area, the media doesn't care after landfall.
I'm disgusted at how the media says "well...not much damage here folks" and packs up when an interstate bridge has been washed out, etc. like in Ivan.

Since I am working at TWC as an intern this summer, I figure I should give my 2 cents.. 
Rest assured, TWC is doing ongoing updates for extreme southern Texas through an "alternate feed," where Storm Stories is NOT running and is being temporarily cut off. Storm Stories is still going on for the rest of the country. Personally, I'm not to big of a fan of this either, but TWC is running on the assumption that most people out there (who are not weather enthusiasts or meteorologists like all of us) will not care to watch a hurricane not affecting them or a large part of the U.S. coastline. I guess they are assuming that for people like us who are weather fanatics, there are other sources between 8 pm to 9 pm that we can use (a.k.a. official sources on the internet). My guess is (in my own opinion), they are more concerned about the GENERAL PUBLIC with not much knowledge of weather, and who only rely on TV, radio, weather.com etc. for hurricane information.
Also, there isn't a bias against Mexico either. The fact of the matter is, most people who live in Mexico can't get TWC except via satellite, and only the financially well-off can usually afford that. Also, the Tamaulipas province is not as populated as most other areas. However, since there are still small towns, and just in case some of them are actually watching TWC, I have just compiled a list of towns and cities in Mexico that are in the path of Emily that Dr. Lyons will be announcing on-air tonight. TWC is trying hard NOT to blow this storm out of proportion and then get blamed all over by people who say they were hyping the storm. Right now, TWC is forecasting extreme south Texas as getting rare gusts to hurricane force AT MOST. This is the forecast for now, and obviously this could change. If anything changes, TWC will be on-air immediately to address the change in forecast.
And to address the reason behind why they show Dr. Lyons but not go to him for analysis.....
He is working for hours upon hours, and it is the current protocol to keep him off air except at 50 past the hour and 10 past the hour. Otherwise, he'll burn out! So the little "tease" at the bottom of the hour is just to let the public know that he is doing nothing but staring at Emily the whole time, analyzing the situation, and trying not to stress out. He, as well as others, are working very hard and are considering pulling a near-all-nighter if Emily really stalls out and/or jogs more towards the TX coast, though this jog is unlikely at the time.
Hope this clears up some stuff?
And since I'm just an intern, I have to emphasize that anything and everything I say on this board DOES NOT represent The Weather Channel in any way. Everything is just my opinion.
