Anyone know how I can upload a simple wav?

#1 Postby southerngale » Thu Jul 21, 2005 11:18 pm

I thought it would be simple but I can't seem to figure out where to do it. My Yahoo geocities won't do it, ImageShack doesn't do it, so I went to wavplanet.com....I could do it there but it doesn't give me a link so others can hear it. Duh, I already have it on my computer. That doesn't help me.

Any suggestions? :)

How big is the file? I have a wav file posted on my website. If you have a geocities site, you could post it there and link us to that.

(And before anyone asks, I'm still working on it -- just like it says on my profile here -- so, don't ask to see it. :) )

You can try http://www.yousendit.com . That will let you upload it and give you a link to the .wav file that's good for some number (25, I think?) of downloads, or 7 days, whichever ends first. You can always upload it again to yousendit if it expires.

Instead of sending it to someone else, use your own email address and the .wav link will be in the email you receive.

Thanks for the responses.

Duckie...I do use Geocities but it tries to upload it as an mp3 and it won't do it. It's a short song, about 1 minute. Can I just change the mp3 at the end to wav and try it that way? lol

wxcrazy...I'm trying to UPLOAD a song from either my CD or the saved version in "My Music"
No instructions on the CD or in the My Music file. :P

HurryKane...thanks. That might work. I just wanted to upload the short song and post a link on here. I guess I didn't realize that wasn't a quick and easy thing to do. I wonder how long it would take for 25 people to click on it. I'm gonna save that site. :)

You could try. Not really sure though. What I have is a theme song that was already a wav when I got it.

Wish I knew more....

Southerngale, there's supposedly a hack for when you submit to yousendit that will allow unlimited downloads, but I don't have the info handy. It would be very late tonight or tomorrow before I could find it but I'll look!

Ok, did a little Googling.

This About article has several recommendations: http://personalweb.about.com/od/filehos ... haring.htm

It mentions Ripway for free file storage but I know NOTHING about it so can't say yea or nay on it: http://personalweb.about.com/gi/dynamic ... way.com%2F

Right now I'd still go with the yousendit, but keep looking too :)

Thanks for the links HurryKane! I checked out the Above article and decided to try Ripway. It was quick and easy and they only needed a username, pw, and email addy to join. I uploaded it quickly and they gave me a link. Works great!

I had tried the Google approach, without much luck. lol
Thanks bunches! :)

Btw duckie, in Geocities, I tried to change it to a wav and upload it and it said it did it successfully, but when I opened the link, I got a broken (split) Quicktime icon. So I guess that doesn't work.

Anyway, Riptime looks to be great, only 5MB are free but this only used 961KB and I won't need it forever so I can always take down what I'm not using if I need more space. I don't now though.

Well, what I was going to do when I started trying to figure this out last night was reply in an existing thread on something being discussed on the tropics forum. It wasn't really that big of a deal but I thought it might be funny and didn't realize I couldn't do it quickly. It was played in Teamspeak and we got a kick out of it. Anyway, since then, after a lot of searching, I found an existing wav of it, and posted it really late last night, but the thread was dead by then. I still want to be able to do my own wavs so I kept this thread up and appreciate all the help.

Anyway, here it is. You can probably figure out what thread it was in, or what the thread was about.
