When I was over in the desert (SW Asia) back in 2003 at the beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom...I saw a lot of dust devils like that...almost every day. There was one that came through camp one day while I was...let us say using the facilities...and the walls of the latrine lifted up and it almost took the whole tent. Luckily I was sitting down and presented a low profile. :D

When I was at Purdue, I studied dust devils for my undergraduate research project. I would go out to local farm fields in the late spring on sunny days with light and variable winds, and sit and wait. I got lots of video documentation.

I saw a dust devil on the National Geographic Video "Cyclone." That one was not nearly as intense as this one.

The National Geographic dust devil was a little humorous, it showed a Giraffe running from it, although I am sure the Giraffe didn't find it amusing.
