Fujiwara Potential?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Fujiwara Potential?

#1 Postby Sanibel » Thu Jul 21, 2005 1:56 pm

It suddenly dawned on me that if the Bahamas cyclone and the SW Caribbean disturbance form strongly enough they are close enough together to act under Fujiwara influence.

This would bring the Bahamas storm westward into Florida and track the Caribbean disturbance west and into land...

I don't think that will happen. First, the Bahamas system is very small and they are not interacting. Second, and last, the Bahamas system is moving basically NW/NNW, and the Caribbean system is moving W/WNW.

The circulations are not large enough to interact over that distance. If these were mature systems, it might be another matter.

Fujiwara is very uncertain with weak systems. We'll have to see. The depth of the Caribbean system appears to be slightly closer to the Bahamas system than what the discussion indicates.

Thanks guy! Just won a bet that you would be the first to bring up Fujiwhara effect with these systems. Time for a cocktail!

If I'm not mistaken - last year (or the year before - I've slept a l*little* since then) there was a thread on this when two storms were out there. Anyone remember that one?

The IR of the west Caribbean disturbance suggests cyclogenesis.

In my opinion the outflow of the Caribbean system is in direct contact with that of the Bahamas storm NE of Cuba. They are touching.

It would be remiss to not mention Fujiwara at this point...

Last year Lisa and a disturbance did the Fujiwara dance.

Who wins, the stronger or the bigger system?

Actually I do recall the big debate on the matter, although heck if I can recall the storms. First time I had ever heard of it actually so I read the whole thing on it. But, apparently it is a VERY debatable subject.

A tongue of high pressure came down over Florida and separated the two systems firmly.

They were probably too weak anyway...

I think there was a situation in 1995 when Humberto, Iris, and Karen were all out in the Atlantic. If I remember correctly, Karen ( the weaker system ) eventually was absorbed by Iris.

Please correct me if I am wrong. Just seems like I remember the locat mets mentioning something to that effect.
