BAMD is "Deep"

#46 Postby Steve Cosby » Sat Jul 23, 2005 6:34 pm

timeflow wrote:This is a slight BUMP. I'm reading this 5pm Discussion and everyone's ideas on the possibility of a loop... but also have looked at what may be old model output and notice only BAMD making a sharp loop... the rest keeping it on towards the NE. If I read the Discussion properly, it would seem that if the storm is healthy in 72 hours, it will likely be steered to the south or southwest, thus beginning a loop. Just trying to clarify this in less technical terms, so that I can understand the more technical... thanks!

BAMD is the deep tropics model, isn't it? The Bermuda Triangle doesn't exactly fit that definition, does it?

Recon seems to have found the center north of 30° ...so the overall movement since the advisory does not have any southward component.

Keep in mind that I'm not a pro, but it looks like the storm is having a East-Southeast motion to it right now. Maybe it's the start of a possible loop or maybe it's temporary, I don't know. I looked at this on the IR Sat.

I think your eyes are playing tricks because of the IR and a < hurricane storm. Try to ignore convection and look for circulation - no southern movement. Remember Arlene, at times because of its convection going off way to the north-east, it looked like that was its heading, but it wasn't.

Recon says the movement is still ENE...
At 17Z...29 deg 41 min N
074 deg 48 min W

At 00Z...30 deg 04 min N
073 deg 25 min W....north 23 minutes and east 83...

At 02Z...30 deg 07 min N
073 deg 08 min W....north 3 minutes and east 17

So the reason the NHC didn't mention it is because it didn't move ESE...at least not anything other than a small jog (if at all). Recon says it's moving almost due east now...but certainly not anything south of east.

The next 24 hours are going to be vital and are going to decide if this thing ends up in the U.S

but still ALWAYS GO BY THE NHC

SOME QUESTION HOW FAST TROPICAL CYCLONE
FRANKLIN WILL MOVE OUT TO THE ENE COMFORTABLY AWAY FROM THE AREA.
12Z GFS DOES NOT MOVE MID LVL CIRCULATION OFF TO OUR EAST TOO
QUICKLY AND THERE IS SOME CONCERN THAT THE SYSTEM COULD SLOW AND
MOVE S OR SW IN THE EXTENDED TIME FRAME

This is from Melbourne disscussion. It makes you wonder.
