EXPERIMENTAL HURRICANE FORECAST
TROPICAL STORM GERT
NJN WEATHER CENTER
5PM ET SUN JULY 24TH 2005
Tropical Storm Gert continues to approach the Mexican coast as a minimal TS with winds around 40 mph.
Gert formed yesterday in the BOC as our 7th tropical depression. This now means we have had 7 TD's and 7 named storms. The Atlantic is batting .1000
Gert will not have much time to strengthen but may strengthen to 45-50 mph before landfall, which will most likely be around midnight eastern.
Gerts' threat will be rain. Her winds are strong to blow loose things around but only on the immediate coast. Gert's rains will dump on places that may have been affected by Emily, so those in the path should be expected to move to higher grounds if need be.
Gert should die out quickly when she gets on land.
Here's the experimental forecast on Gert:
Tonight: Making landfall in Central Mexico around midnight. Max winds: 45 mph
Monday: Dumping rains inland over mountanous areas. Max winds: 35 mph
Tuesday: A remnant extratropical system. Max Winds: 20 mph
