A heat advisory, excessive heat watch, and excessive heat warning are now in effect for the Middle Atlantic States Monday through Wednesday. This dangerous heat wave is occurring courtesy of a big ridge of high pressure dominating the eastern 2/3rd's of the United States.
Breaking it down, an excessive heat warning is in effect for the Philadelphia Metro area for Monday and Tuesday. High temperatures Monday and Tuesday will reach 95-100 in Philadelphia. This combined with high humidity will result in heat indices of 100-105 Monday and 105-110 on Tuesday. An excessive heat warning means that the combination of prolonged excessive heat and humidity could result in heat related illnesses to anyone. Seek indoors in an air conditioned location, stay indoors during the hottest part of the day, and check up on the elderly, small children, or those that are sensitive to the heat. Do not keep yourself, children, or pets inside automobiles. Temperatures inside a automobile can heat up to 150 degrees or higher very quickly and it can prove fatal as well.
Meanwhile a heat advisory is in effect for the following locations on Monday and Tuesday. Baltimore, MD, Washington DC, Annapolis, MD, Fredricksburg, VA, Richmond, VA, Norfolk, VA, and Virginia Beach, VA. In addition an excessive heat watch is in effect for the following locations, Atlantic City, NJ, Dover, DE, Denton, MD, Cambridge, MD, Salisbury, MD, Ocean City, MD, Rehoboth Beach, DE, Norfolk, VA, Virginia Beach, VA, and Richmond, VA.
High temperatures in the above mentioned areas will likely be 90-96 degrees on Monday with heat indices of 100-105 degrees when you combine the high temperatures with the high levels of relative humidity. On Tuesday high temperatures in the above mentioned areas will be 98-103 degrees. Heat indices will range from 110-117 degrees when combining high temperatures with high levels of relative humidity.
This is a dangerous and life threatening situation for the Mid Atlantic states and also for the eastern 2/3rd's of the United States where a massive heat wave is widespread. Stay tuned for further updates as warranted.

Hi MGC. I wish you the best of luck in Norfolk. At least this heat wave will not last long. By Thursday temps will drop back into the middle 80s for highs and the trend will be for mid to upper 80s for highs next weekend with overnight lows in the upper 60s to near 70. A return to near normal conditions by this coming weekend. The next three days, Monday and especially Tuesday and Wednesday will be tough and especially dangerous for anyone to step outdoors. Watch out rainstorm, stay cool.

Looks like up here in NYC we'll hit the highest temps of the year. Mid 90s, everyone almost is forecasting 95 for Tuesday. Its gonna be real hot.
And Central Park better not screw up with temperature readings again! These people there need to learn how to take temperature measurements. There were days this year when everyone would hit 90 or above even areas like the Hamptons and JFK and Central Park would only report a high of 89. Or everyone is at least 95 and Central Park reports 92. Its what has stopped us from having our first official heatwave of the year and it is pissing me off. I hope with this heat wave they won't screw up. If its going to be hot (I hate the heat), it might as well show in the record books. Speaking of which its been hot here recently, but not extremely hot. The inland areas into New England and the Midwest have been the ones to report extremely high temperatures and temperature departures for June and July. If things don't change soon a lot of the country might be seeing their hottest summer ever or at least one of the hottest.
