Rolling blackouts?

As anyone knows right now, the Midwest has been broiling. Cincinnati included. A community to our west lost power briefly. Then 15 minutes later we did as well. But it quickly came back on. We had to run an erand at another nearby suburb, traffic lights were out. It was just a strange night is all I can say. And it makes you uneasy. So I've been careful not to run the dishwasher or dryer. Turning light outs, etc. But here I sit, putzing on the computer. Haven't been able to find anything in the local media about it but I can't help but remember the East Coast Blackout of 2003 (where Ohio was determined to be at fault!).

Yikes, if there is a huge strain of power right now, don't you think the media should be asking us to reduce our consumption?

Hmmmm... that is interesting. We lost power this morning early before I woke up for about a half hour... that was at the coolest part of the day though. Not really sure what's going on in your case. :?:

We're expecting a cold front late tomorrow afternoon. Hoping power holds on until then! We were just starting to collect the Sony Watchman, radio and flashlights for later tonight, when it came back on. That's when my husband said - rolling blackout. Especially when we knew of 2 other communities that had them. At one intersection, an accident had happened. Probably b/c lights were out. Tempers are short too, no wonder. High of 97 here today!

The company I work for has a corporate office in California and they are having rolling black outs as well.

I was just surprised there were no explanations. Or prep involved. The amusement park/picnic grove/outdoor pool my oldest daughter works decided to close 3 hours early (employees were probably excited)! Thinking it could be a long outage, ours only lasted 15 minutes.

Today's our last very hot day for a while. We're all eagerly awaiting that cold front. In Cincinnati, our problem is high humidity, not just high temps. Heat index has been well over 105 here. My husband thing heat index (and wind chills) are so bogus....sometime we should do threads on both, legit or not?..... Thanks everyone. Just wondered if this was happening elsewhere.
