About having all information in one thread
Do you like what I am doing in respect of posting all the information in one thread that all can replie to with information or comments about the theme in particular. An example now I have 2 threads that are with many pages going about invest 92L and about the waves in general. When important updates come I go and edit the title of thread to show the latest.
If anyone wants the latest in a thread of many pages you only have to go to the last page and the latest will be there.
Ok folks be candid and say yes I like what Luis is doing with the threads or no I dont like it.I am open to any suggestion about this.

50 threads about a system - Turn back three pages just to see your post the previous night.
1 thread about a system - Turn back 10 pages in a thread just to see your post the previous night. (100 pages in a thread literally in just a week I have seen in other forums
)
So yeah I like it this way - two to three threads about each system, not too many, not too few. Thanks for asking BTW!

The only tweak I would suggest is to close or lock threads once they get
really long. Kind of like how you reset the advisory or recon threads once a day.
For example this thread:
http://www.storm2k.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=68719
Has grown so big, I think it would be good to lock it and start a new
one. That thread is now a week old and 12 pages (and growing!)
really long. Kind of like how you reset the advisory or recon threads once a day.

15 pages and closed that is the limit.

I see a marked decrease in threads on a particular topics which makes it easier to find what I am looking for. I would rather flip through more pages in thread then through pages of thread titles trying to find certain information. Plus if I'm keeping up to date on a particular topic I just flip to the last page.. no biggie at all
Whatever your doing seems to be working.. so keep up the great work.

I like the one thread for each *breaking news*, advisory and recon update idea a lot. I also like that if you click *watch this thread* you'll get an email that will zap you to the latest post (whether or not you've written in the thread), instead of having to wade through anything, but you can still go back if you want to.

Overall, I think you're doing a great job moderating the forum, Luis. Thanks for all your work.
Jan I haved left Franklin Advisorie thread go to page 5 already because it's on it's final hours or a couple of days.

Just a suggestion.
I'll stick with the 15 page limit is better IMO

Cyclone...I like it, yet I agree w/ Ivan Hater..
Allot of times, someone makes a "new" post about a topic thats already been posted on. Yet ALLOT of those "new" posts are great new insights or new data or information that gets lost in a 15 page discussion
I'll try to give an example so someone might be able to understand what I'm trying to say.
Topic: "Hurricane X is RAPIDLY INTENSIFYING"
If I see this you can guarantee I'm going to read it..Even if I know they're is another thread about hurricane x thats 14 pages long now, and I've read 11 of those pages.
Topic: "Hurricane X movement........" (14 pages long, I've read 11.)
If I need to go to this thread to see that it's rapidly intensifying, you can forget it, I and allot of others will never see it for the following reasons.
1. An 11 page discussion has probably already gotten WAY off topic for about 3 of them pages.
2. An 11 page discussion has probably already gotten filled with arguments and squabbles between 2 or more people.
Yet at the same time, I DO NOT want like it was with Dennis and everybody posting the exact same topic with the exact same info.
Also I personally LOVE when you update the threads title to the most accurate information at the time..
Thank You very much for what ya do. It does get appreciated..

I question this -- the fact that the thread is really long-lived should indicate that people like it. Locking such a thread is telling all of the people participating in it that you're basically punishing them for successfully keeping themselves "neat". All the people who had the thread itself bookmarked are screwed. I think the Atlantic T Waves is about as perfect as a thread can get, taking in talk concerning most of the speculative, pre-developmental East Atlantic junk-systems that would otherwise generate two or three new topics per day.cycloneye wrote:15 pages and closed that is the limit.dhweather wrote:The only tweak I would suggest is to close or lock threads once they get

I say: Leave it alone.
IMO, it's the search-engine that needs tweaking. For instance, I can bring up a list of all the threads I've participated in, but am unable to sort the returns in any manner at all (say, by clicking the Topics header, and seeing the returns re-sort).
