Finally, our heat wave of last week and this past weekend has come to an end. Today (Monday) the high reached 102 degrees at 5pm. By 8pm, the temperature fell to 77 degrees. As I type this, it is 74 with a thunderstorm!
Yes, we need the rain!
Un fortunately when you have temperatures of in the mid 60s over South Dakota and 100s over Nebraska and Iowa, usually more than just rain occurs. The area sustained mainly some wind events (60 to 70 mph), a little hail, and one doppler-indicated tornado warning over Mills COunty, IA.
Other than that, rain, some even heavy, will continue through the night with thunderstorms. Tuesdays highs will only reach 75, with morning showers. By Wednesday into the weekend it appears a rebound in temps. toward the upper 80s is in store. {cross fingers - hopefully we don't see any more upper 90s or 100s]

Charleston AFB was in 'Black Flag' conditions today... meaning no outside activities... however, due to my career field, I'm unfortunately outside... we had 15 min work/45 minutes off for break. Ironically, we had a cargo plane to load we had extra people outside and 3 water coolers outside with cold water. (I'm normally not outside, but we had to argue with a loadmaster about cargo restraints (Nets and straps)... I'm load planning, that's part of my job)

Have had a nice couple days around here. With lower to mid 70s, a few passing clouds from time to time, and low humidity levels, it is quite lovely compared to just a few days ago.
Forecast shows temperatures beginning to increase, but they will likely only go as far as the lower 90s towards Sunday.
Late July/August cool downs are WONDERFUL!

At 2pm Central Time, tempeartures are a couple degree either side of 80 degrees, slightly cooler than the forecasted temperature. Isolated to widely scattered showers have been dancing around the area since early this Friday morning.
After some early evening showers this evening, it will become partl y cloudy with temperatures falling into the upper 60s. For Saturday, it will be mainly dry with mostly sunny skies as temperatures rise to the upper 80s. Saturday night, there is a small chance for thunderstorms, but personally I don't think anything will come out of it. Sunday appears dry with temperatures in the lower 90s.
All and all, a typical summer pattern. Next week it continues with a few isolated storms not ruled out during the late afternoon and evening time periods.
