Pepsi with chocolate syrup?

That sounds utterly disgusting! (Then again, some combinations that sound like they would make one want to puke turn out to be surprisingly deliscious.)

my must-have hurricane snacks are: iced tea, wine, chocolate (preferably dark, i.e. mounds or special dark), cheese curls and/or bugles, melba toast and "shaving" cheese (that's what we call that cheese you squirt out of the can)

A hurricane, some oysters, and a little bit of Jimmy Buffett music in the background.

Honestly, Diet Dr. Pepper and anything chocolate to snack on.

Dunno. Living where I do, we don't get hurricanes. We had a sleet storm a few years ago that shut the city down, but the electricity was on and we were actually stuck at my sister's north of Dallas in a worse storm. But her place is THE place to be in an ice storm - as long as you have electric. She always has tons of good stuff to eat at her house... the freezer's full and she can cook. Both our families pretty much waddled out of there after the ice melted ;)

Honestly, if I was IN a hurricane, I pro'bly couldn't eat. I'm weird that way.

Definitely want chips/salsa, Cheeze-its, Pringles (stay fresh in soggy conditions), cookies, some kind of chocolate is always nice

I'd get tired of snacks after a couple of days with no power... so would want canned: tuna, beef, pork, chicken, vegetables, beans, fruit, milk (or box milk - we can buy that here),

also: bread, pnut butter, apples, pasta sauce in jars, pasta

to drink: plenty of rum, etc always in cabinet, but really want LOTS of bottled water and bottled juice!!

Wine is great because refrigeration is not a necessity for the reds!
Personally I like to have watermelon. Snacky and no need for drinks!
My gf HAS TO HAVE plenty of Mt. Dew and Red Bull around and the chips and guacamole w/salsa are her fave!

Lots of Reg and diet soda, water and juice I personally liked having PBJ for my 8 year old it was a little harder, any kind of carb free snack Veina sausages that sort of thing , plus the juice pouches were for him but only when he was low He has Juvenile Diabetes so it was a lot harder for him. Oh I wanted to mention we made sloopy joes on our grill used a skillet kept the hamburger cold in the freezer because we stocked it with ice fried it right up mixed the sauce and grab some buns and presto!!!! we had dinner.

Good suggestions, Cinlfla. Indeed, lots of great ideas so far on this thread for surviving the "season."

Beer for sure. There was a article in the NY Times about WalMarts new supply system and how it can trac sales in certain stores prior to events like hurricanes. The WalMart spokesperson said they were very surprised to find out that the 2 biggest selling items in the Florida WalMarts prior to the hurricanes were beer and pop tarts !!

Betty Crocker here! I bake like a feign before a storm threatens. Everyone can take comfort in double chocolate chunk brownies.

I remember before Andrew, we had our "last supper"...just in case we didn't get a hot meal for awhile. Good call. Downfall is that a full stomach can be he*l when looking down the barrel of a bad storm.

Don't know how it is in other locales, but there are a couple of restaurant owners here who try to keep food moving during outages and it's much appreciated by disaster workers and citizens.
