Hmm. I never eat Pop-tarts, and I bought some when prepping for Dennis. There must be some sort of subliminal advertising going on in the satellite images. Kinda like the old Burma-Shave ads:

Personally I like to have watermelon. Snacky and no need for drinks!
My gf HAS TO HAVE plenty of Mt. Dew and Red Bull around and the chips and guacamole w/salsa are her fave!
So, not knowing a lot about wine, I would take that to mean that a nice white would go with a tropical storm, but a red is a must for a hurricane? Maybe a food critic can correct me if I am wrong (I would just hate to serve the wrong wine with a storm).

I tend to eat quite well, even during power outages. Between the Coleman stove, BBQ grill, and smoker, there isn't much that can't be prepared. Several days into one of last years outages, we had blackened steak with benaise sauce, along with fresh silver queen corn and asparagus.
Now I'm hungry.

A white wine is perfect -- if the storm is a "fish."

We had that in Gulf Shores and other areas. Despite how bad their place was damage several well known places around here crank up their grills and helped people out along with the much appreciated relief workers and National Guard Units!

Red Bull and Jagermeister keeps me going, beef jerkey is my food of choice. If things look really bad and I know the stores will be closed for awhile I might stock up on cigarette cartons, I dont smoke but the smokers will trade anything for a pack when they're out durring and after the storm.

You are so right Jrod. Good thing you are only down the road a piece. My hurricane supplies: Coffee and cigarettes. I stock the other stuff too, but those are the important ones.

budweiser, camel lights (in the box),
camp stove, propane grill, charcoal grill (mesquite and hickory chips are a must) to make quick work of what is in the fridge/freezer
pasta, soup (canned i love campbell's bean w/ bacon even w/out the water), grilled cheese,
cook bacon in the microwave (or stove) and chill it in a cooler it can come in handy, hard-boiled eggs last longer,
i'm not too big of a fan of fruit, hurricanes--the drink,
deviled ham sandwiches, beef jerky, gatorade (don't drink it when consuming alcohol the electrolytes bond to the alcohol and make you drunker faster--trust me),
you can make "block ice" using ziplock/glad/tupperware containers and it lasts longer than ice cubes for cooling purposes
never had to do it but several 5 gallon buckets full of water to "flush" when you have a full stomach
one of my dad's favorite sandwiches is MPP (mayonnaise, pickle, peanut butter) minus the mayo of course it is good--i am a man and i am not pregnant either
vienna sausages of course...and SOS (can't spell it out here it is...well... "stuff" on a shingle)=chipped beef on toast
watermelon and other melons would be the fruit that i would eat except they usually have a "revenge" on me if you know what i mean
canned beef stew, chef boyardee is the man (all of his products)
and ramen noodles in a pot on the grill or stove...
that should be enough...if i think of more i'll let you guys know

Wait....I don't get this one. I love Pepsi and I love chocolate syrup, but are you actually mixing them together?
Yes, I mix them together. Fill glass with Pepsi, add as much Hershey's syrup as you like and fill with ice.
When I was a little girl, cherry cokes were popular but I didn't like them. I love chocolate and had the soda jerk make me a chocolate coke (I prefer Pepsi). He made himself one and liked it and put it on the menu. Its definitely something that I drink when I'm stressed.

I just read a National Geographic article on the recent hurricane seasons and the author mentioned that the biggest seller prior to a hurricane's arrival is beer. The stores run out of it quickly. It was explained that an area hit by a serious storm usually has a beer sale ban in order to keep public order, so the buyers are stocking up.

What a great post!!! Which I finally got around to...Dixie, you are a food editor! For who, I'd love to check it out!
While my hurricane experiences these last many years have been in the VI's...the few *scares* we've had since I've been here show about the same MO:
Lots of people, including me, have propane - tank not city - stoves/ovens - we stock up on extra propane in this season - so many can still cook food not needing refrigeration - we stock up on pasta, rice, beans, canned vegies, canned roast beef (enchiladas, rice and...pasta and...), tuna fish (canned) toss in some canned red peppers, molido, racaito, spices, into whatever is thawing fast.
Lots of rum/vodka/etc/juices...
Water water water.
Sigh...asparagus...we don't get that here in the best of weather...unless we go to the big island.
