Did you know Dennis and Emily have been retired?
I know people often post to see if a storm name has been retired. I found this link which shows the names of the retired storms. I was surprised that Dennis and Emily have already been retired. I thought this would happen after the season.

Yah!! I think that is is pretty ovious that they would be!! Because they were pretty strong and caused enough damage. But i don't think they should have retired Emily. That is a COOOOOL name.

Huh. I thought the WMO waited until an annual meeting after the season ended before retiring them.

Records don't make a storm eligible for retirement. We've seen plenty of powerhouse storms or unique "early" storms, but they didn't do any damage nor did they cause any deaths -- so no retirement. Nevertheless, Dennis and Emily will most likely be retired next spring with the WMO meets.

Interesting how weather underground can be so inaccurate...
So let me get this straight. Ivan didn't affect Jamaica? Jeanne didn't affect Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti? Dennis didn't affect Haiti either?
Hmmm...
EDIT: Not trying to find every little error, but one must realize that Jeanne killed thousands in Haiti, not in Florida, and that's why she was retired. Ivan killed 16 in Jamaica, and Dennis killed 25 people, possibly more, in Haiti.
Below is a list of Atlantic Ocean retired names, the years the hurricanes occurred, and the areas they affected. Keep in mind that a large number of destructive storms occurred before naming began in 1950, and are not included on this list.
Dennis (2005): Cuba, Florida
Jeanne (2004): Florida
Ivan (2004): Grenada, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Alabama, Florida

Yeah, I found it a little odd myself that Elena was listed for Florida but Georges wasn't. My Dad lived in Tarpon Springs (Tampa area) during Elena and Big Pine (near Key west) during Georges and I think he might disagree with that assessment....

IIRC, all cat-5s are retired (even if the storm is only cat-2 or weaker at landfall and does little damage), cat-4s if they are particularly destructive, and much more rarely, lesser storms that are either incredibly destructive (e.g., Agnes) or are very unsual or interesting from a scientific standpoint (e.g., ???).
This is the reason that Bret hasn't been retired even though a cat-4 Bret struck a virtually deserted stretch of Texas coast in 1999 (at cat-4 intensity).
