Is disagreeing the topic of the day?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Is disagreeing the topic of the day?

#1 Postby Mattie » Thu Jul 28, 2005 10:39 pm

While this post will probably be deleted by the mods, I just wanted to say that I see a lot of "tension" in the threads among board members. Sometimes I read posts and think "that's not correct"; "I don't think I like that board attitude", etc. but try not to write my thoughts down until I boil over. (I have recently and the post was deleted by the mods) but have vowed to be a good poster and try to keep my mouth shut. (The Texas duct tape seems to work pretty well when my hands are bound by it.)

I agree however, that it's not fun to read the board when every thread has negative comments about another post. I'm trying to remember that all of this is ONLY our opinion - because if we knew what the outcome of every scenario would be, we would have a knowledge board instead of a discussion forum. . .

It's easier to agree to disagree and go onto another post.

Just thought I'd get it off my chest. . . . thanks.

Maybe it's because we're so active so early? I know I have made quite a few more comments than last season. Maybe it's just the excitement and everyone wants a piece? Who knows, but I do agree with your post.

Not meaning to be harsh or bossy since I am new around here but there is a tactful way to approach posts you don't agree with. You can disagree with someone without giving them a double whammy blow in the stomach for not agreeing with you.

I completely agree too. In fact, there are times when it goes WAY too far. I can think of several people in particular, but I'll just keep to myself.

Yes - I think "TACT" would be a great definition for all of us to learn . . .

Tact is a careful consideration of the feelings and values of another so as tocreate harmonious relationships with a reduced potential for conflict or offense. Tact is a virtue.

I always try to be neutral to either sides when I post.

All of us need to vent during the stressful times of the tropical season. However, I do agree that that venting needs to be to yourself, not directed toward someone.

At the beginning of every storm season, I think the same thing about the fighting and jockeying and camaraderie here:

We all are just a bunch of adrenalin-driven storm lovers that are exactly like teenagers at the beginning of a new school year. We like living on the edge and thrive on a diet of anticipation and anxiety. We are Tropical Storm Junkies whether we want to admit it or not.

The hours and days of WAITING and WAITING and WAITING for the next storm are excruiating.

It's especially tough during years like this when we receive 7 hits early on, and the waiting tension in the air crackles like heat lightening in the desert.

Some of the posters irritate me at times, but no more than a kid brother would. Heck, what would I do without you all to entertain me?

It may not be the perfect family, but it's MY family, and I'll whup up on anyone outside of here that says anything derogatory about it!

Group hug everybody ... we'll need each other down the road.

Amen to that one SeaBrz_FL!!!! I know times are in a lull right now - and agree that no immediate threat causes us to redirect our adrenaline rushes elsewhwere!!!! I couldn't agree more - we are a FAMILY and I appreciate being part of it!

I just went for a shower and guess what...people do do their best thinking under the showerhead! (but I've never stayed at a Holiday Inn Express) So let me provide some more input into this great thread.

The Internet is a world. Planet Internet. Weather is like a country, one of the millions, if not billions, on Planet internet. There's a state, now, in this country called weather, in this planet Internet, called Forum. Then there is a city, in the state Forum, in the country Weather, in this Planet Internet, called Storm2k.

Like all cities, this one has its good people, bad people, annoying people, smart people, etc. Whenever a stressful time comes into a community, the people there start to bicker, and ya know what, it doesn't need to be a stressful time, it can be anytime. And there are bad people who might want to move into are community. But fortunately we have policemen, called Moderators, who will patrol for these people. City Hall officials called Administrators will help out as well. Thanks to these great people, these trolls will be thrown into jail.

But back to the daily bickering that happens in a community. Everybody makes mistakes, and there are some people who will be more knowledgable in things. And there are some people who are more short-tempered. However, always think of this: we need to be considerate of others and forgive others. We need to look out for each other, not reprimand each other for every little mistake. The more fighting that's going on, the more corruption will occur in our little community.

Also, if someone says something bad about you, then just try to ignore it. That little insult won't kill you. They are just probably trying to give a suggestion. On the other hand, if they are truly bullying you, then you need to know that there are special police forces called Moderators that can help you. Don't try to attack back; that will cause more harm. Remember: the greatest victory is the battle not fought.

Not trying to tell you how to post, just giving you suggestions. :D

When someone's "solution" to any (let alone every) asserted problem is "I'm sending my goverment on over to rip off more of your property in order to pay for it!" -- careful consideration for the feelings and values of their target has not occurred, and no "harmonious relationship" is possible when a predator mentality is on the loose.

I dont like arguing because doing that causes you to have more enemies than friends

I enjoy debating to determine who my friends and enemies are. (Enemies are those who think I owe them a living to the point of authorizing collection agents to come and steal my stuff.)

I have noticed a definite arrogant and sometimes a nasty tone to some of the posters this year. Then I look at when they joined this board and the vast majority came aboard either last year or this year. I wonder why some of the new "experts" weren't here in years past but maybe they just found us? Anyway, give them a chance to learn the Storm2k way. I'm sure the mods have been busy behind the scenes educating them to the way this board is run. I'm sure they'll learn or they won't be around long.
